Cathay building stood on the site of an old bakery and Victorian building managed by Teo Ho Lye and Louis Moulteni from Poland. Moulteni came to Singapore in the 1880s and started his confectionery. It was also Singapore's first skyscraper. For more info, please refer to Learn more about The Cathay @ Orchard
The Cathay features an eight story shopping mall and a 9-story serviced apartment on top of the building. The retail outlets, food and beverage outlets occupy the basement to the 4th floor. There are 8 cinema halls on levels 5 and 6 including The Picturehouse. The Picturehouse is an arthouse cinema hall outfitted with 82 Poltrona Faru Oscar seats.
Beside the great movie theaters The Cathay has, i believe the other thing that is worth to mention would be the food. here in cathay, there are great food restaurants such as nihon mura, Snackz It!, ASTONS, B&J. you can also spend some quality time at starbucks with friends~
One of my favourite hang out in town because I love watching movies and The Cathay just make my day every time I go there for movies... It's so spacious and comfortable that it's very unique to it's own... After movies we can have a drink and chill out at Starbucks.
Want to catch your favorite movie on screen? head to The Cathay cinemas and enjoy comfortable seats while watching a movie, with popcorn and softdrinks on the side to complete your movie experience
The Cathay is a very good shopping area that features a world class cinema. More often than not you will find many teenagers loitering around the area, waiting to catch the latest blockbuster.
