A mosque is a place of worship used by Muslims. The English word ‘mosque’ is derived from Arabic equivalent, masjid, which means ‘place of prostration’. The mosque not only serves the religious needs of the community, it also provides other social services. This is in line with the concept of the mosque being a multi-functional institution and its centrality as a prime agency to facilitate the creation of an excellent Muslim Community.
The proposed site for the new Sengkang mosque will be at junction of Sengkang East Road and Compassvale Bow (yet to be constructed) covering an area of 0.25 ha (2500 m2). This location is located 300m away from Buangkok MRT station (a 5 min walk) and 400m away from Renjong LRT station.
The mosque will not only serve the religious needs of the community, but it also provides other social services which are in line with the concept of a mosque being a multi-functional institution and a prime agent to facilitate towards an excellent Muslim Community. This encompasses the four core areas of the pillars of the mosque’s activities, namely: - Islamic Learning - Social Development - Family and Youth Development - Religious Services and Referrals
Its name has yet been confirmed and will be released by the office of the Mufti only in February 2007.
The location of the mosque makes it easy for the moque to serve residents from Sengkang, Hougang and Punggol furthermore it is intended to serve praying needs for approximately 4,000 persons at peak periods.
The open-to-all concept and “Family Friendly” theme proposed by the mosque promises various programmes and facilities to enhance community bonding among the different races and families across the different age groups.
