Guide to Jewelry
Titanium is a metal that was discovered in 1791 in Cornwall England in the form of an oxide which means that it was not in its pure form. The man who discovered it was named William Gregor and he was an amateur geologist. The name "Titanium" was given to the new metal by a German chemist who named it after the Titans of Greek mythology. It was in 1910 that Titanium was produced in its pure form and ever since that time people have been finding uses for it.

While it is not by definition a precious metal in the way that gold is, it is by no means cheap. This is why until recently it has only been used in specialized applications such as the defense and and space industry. If you have never held and looked at a piece of titanium you are in for a pleasant surprise when you do, because it has an odd white metallic color and is surprisingly light. In fact it is so incredibly light that it will surprise you when you pick it up. Its light weight is one of the reasons that Titanium is being used in fine watches that seem to float on the wrist.

Titanium is almost virtually indestructible and while being almost as strong as steel it is at the same time lighter than aluminum. More and more people are beginning to wear titanium in jewelry form and are finding that it makes a great conversation piece. Also, because titanium is so incredibly durable and resists corrosion so well it is now being used in the manufacture of specialized watches. Titanium looks like no other metal and men in particular are finding themselves wearing it more and more in the form of pieces such as bracelets rings and cuff links.
