Veteran Bloggers will probably tell you that in order to get more traffic into your site, create a post entitled "Pinay scandal" and if your post is popular enough it will make it to the top ten in google and since there are a good number (should I say "evil" number?) of people online looking for sex in the internet, most likely your site will enjoy a high volume of traffic.
Sex sells. That is why using the Pinay Scandal word in a blog or website is sure to drive a number of visitors to your blog or website. "Pinay scandals" sites are known to contain pornographic materials featuring Filipinas.
However let me tell you what the really is the real pinay scandal. The scandal is not that there are those searching for porn in the internet. The real pinay scandal is the abuse, prostitution and trafficking Filipino women and children.
In order to fully understand what I am talking about, let me point out some hair raising statistics.
1.) TRAFFICKING OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN
On July 2, 1998 the Daily Star reported that there are 150,000 Filipina women that are trafficked into prostitution in Japan. Allegedly some of these women were sold to the Yakuza for $2,400.00 to $ 18,000.00 each. On May 31, 1995, The Manila Chronicle reports that 150 Filipinas were sold into prostitution to night club operators in African countries most particularly Nigeria. These women were sold for $5,000 each by international crime syndicates.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Philippines reports that 492 of 3,776 reported cases of child abuse involves pornography, prostitution, paedophilia and trafficking. From 1991 to 1996 there were 8,335 cases of child abuse from 1991-1996, 96% of the victims were females.
2.) PROLIFERATION OF THE PROSTITUTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN
The August 18, 1998 issue of the Kyodo News revealed that a study shows that in the Philippines there are about 75,000 children who were forced into prostitution due to poverty.
There are 400,000 women engaged in prostitution in 1998 as reported in the February 25, 1998 issue of TODAY. Not included in this statistics are the unregistered, seasonal prostitutes, overseas entertainers and victims of external trafficking. About one fourth of those engaged in prostitution are children. It has been reported that about 3,266 more children are forced into prostitution each year.
Sol F. Juvida's intensive study entitled "Philippines - Children: Scourge of Child Prostitution" reveals some shattering facts. Her study reveals that the Philippines is fourth among 9 nations with the most children in prostitution an estimated 60,000 to 100,000. In Angeles City alone about 75% of the estimated 500 prostitutes in an area known for child prostitution in Angeles City are children. More than 20 years ago there were only 7 provinces with child sex rings. Now there are 37 provinces with child sex rings.
The Indian Express reports in their November 21, 1997 issue that the Philippines is one of the favored destinations of pedophile sex tourists from western countries like Europe and the United States.
The October 12, 1997 issue of InterPress Service tells the shocking story of a 13 year old girl named Sharon who was kidnapped and sold as a virgin for US$30. In a brothel, she was raped by 8 to 15 men every night, even when she had her menstrual period or was sick with fever. By the time she escaped with a customer's help she had sex with more than 1,500 men.
The sad thing about this is that there is "no evidence" that children in prostitution can ever rehabilitate. This traumatic experience will be borne by them forever in life. EPCAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes) coordinator Ron O'Grady says that "Few children rescued from brothels have been able to begin living anything like a healthy life again. " In an international conference Ron O'Grady says ''The ultimate solution to the problem lies in changing human attitudes and human values'' Not only is the real pinay scandal the continuation of all of these horrific activities. The ultimate pinay scandal is the failure of society to change their attitudes towards these problems and to do something about it.
