Whatis seen outside is 15% - 10% (appearance). What's really happening inside is85% - 90% (emotions). Emotion is like gravity. You know it's there. You know itexists but how do you define it? It is always experienced by the people.
Emotional intelligence -?Is a term used to describe the various competenciesthat are essential for building, developing and managing relationships?(Peters, 2008, p.13). Emotional intelligence consists of two dimensions;intrapersonal intelligence and interpersonal intelligence.
EmotionalIntelligence or Emotional Quotient is simply defined as ?Knowing what one feelsgood, what one feels bad, and how to get from bad to good. Knowing youremotions and knowing emotions of others.? It refers to emotional managementskills, which provide competency to balance emotions and reasons so as tomaximize long term happiness.
?Emotional Intelligence is the capacity for recognizing our own feelings andthose of others, for motivating ourselves, and for managing emotions well inourselves and in our relationships. Emotional intelligence describes abilitiesdistinct from but complementary to academic intelligence,? said Daniel Goleman(1998).
Are we giving EQ training in school?
Are we giving training for how to control emotions?
Are we training people how emotions related with one event change their future?
My answer is ?NO.?
Emotional competency, Emotional maturity and Emotional sensitivity can belearned and develop person.
EQ abilities are declining in children. More impulsive, aggressive, andangry entry level employees need more training in EQ competencies.
EQ is teachable and tends to increase over your lifetime (maturity).
Work climate is dependent on EQ level of management. Majority of employeeschoose to leave or stay at an organization based on relationship with theirmanager.
What is observed in the life is that people take emotions heartily and break downthe relationship. People react with emotions towards others and this hurts theother one. The other one takes it personally instead of taking itprofessionally. Other people do not take it as a reaction to an event but treatit as a critic to him and take it personally. This breaks down the long timerelationship for life time.
Emotionalreactions spoil relationship, future goals and tend to change destination.Other people also treat it personally and react badly to the action, which hurtthe people and love in the relationship is slowly drop down where as bitternessstarts flowing in the relationship. Finally, no one wins, and team spoils off,relationship spoils off and organization is spoils off.
Today's conclusion of Monday wisdom is Emotional competency, Emotional maturityand Emotional sensitivity. It can be learnt by developing person. Emotionsshould be treated mentally instead of personally. It can also be treated as areaction to an event not to a person. So, it should not be treated personally.
Research On Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence is another type of Intelligence that was found as an important factor in attaining success in life. It allows an individual to successfully set priorities.
It is more focused on how a person understands, recognizes, and chooses his values. It shows how good a person is in understanding others, and how good he is in making decisions. It is how good a person can apply what he learned to be happy, how a person can love and interact with others.
Studies show that it is not the IQ or Intelligence Quotient of a person which is responsible in attaining success in life. EQ or Emotional Quotient is the main factor responsible for a person's success in all aspects of life.
Unlike Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient is present to everyone. It only needs to be developed. Developing Emotional Quotient can help in decision-making, and in building good relationships with other people.
It focuses more in attaining intangible success in life. Success is attaining by knowing how to deal with emotions, feelings, and interactions with others.
It was proved that attaining material success does not promise personal contentment. Success is defined as being contented, happy and satisfied in life. Focus on nurturing Emotional Quotient because Intelligence Quotient alone cannot attain these things.
In 1990, Emotional Quotient was introduced in the world market, affirming that a person's ability to handle relationships and his ability to use the appropriate emotions in every interaction are much more important than a person's intelligence quotient. It was agreed that Emotional Quotient is essential in creating a good leader.
A leader who has a high emotional quotient score is expected to be more positive in life. Emotional Quotient gives a person courage to stand again after a fall. Emotional Quotient gives person strength to face fear.
Being worried, always in doubt, accepting mistakes, and admitting mistakes are just some of the challenges a leader in a business will face. It is believed by many company owners that a team leader worthy of selection should possess high Emotional Quotient to be able to face these challenges.
A successful person lives his life through his values. He knows his purpose. Being accountable in all the things that are happening in life is an example of having high emotional quotient.

Being true to oneself is one way of living life to the fullest. EQ is much more important because it drives a person to be successful and have a more contented life.
