The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) classified colloidal silver as a pre-1938 drug. More clearly, a letter from the FDA dated 9/13/91 states: "These products may continue to be marketed .. . as long as they are advertised and labeled for the same use as in 1938 and as long as they are manufactured in the original manner."
The FDA declared in a Final Rule dated August 17, 1999 that “all over-the-counter drug products containing colloidal silver or silver salts are not recognized as safe and effective and are misbranded”.
The health food industry points out that the FDA did not say you could not buy colloidal silver. It did not say that products containing colloidal silver could not be sold. Nor did it say they were NOT safe and effective. Many in the health industry consider colloidal silver to be an excellent treatment for illnesses and conditions as diverse as acne, stomach flu, malaria, HIV, scarlet fever, and warts, to name a few.
You can buy colloidal silver and remain well within the law, but because of the FDA ruling, you will probably have to buy colloidal silver at a health store. You can also buy colloidal sliver on the Internet.

You can buy colloidal silver in many places, but do silver colloids work? Do you know the best type to buy? If you buy colloidal silver, how will you know you bought the best product? If you buy colloidal silver, how will you know whether you have the most effective formula? Is it true that colloidal silver products will turn your skin blue? Answers to many of these questions are available at http://www.colloidalsilverinformation.com
Buy colloidal silver only after asking your health-care provider if it is right for you. Remind him or her that you can buy colloidal silver in the manner it was used and manufactured before 1938.
Remind him or her, too, that the FDA has approved several silver-based products as having medicinal benefits. That trend may soon mean you will be able to buy colloidal silver widely.
Until then, buy colloidal silver as a dietary supplement, or under your health-care provider's insight.
