How About A Cup Of Organic Coffee
By. James Kronefield
All of us hear a lot any more about organic foods and why they are healthy for us and for our environment. For those of us who are coffee drinkers there is also the chose of organic and non organic coffee. For me its clear that I should make an effort for my health and the health of the environment to drink organic coffee.

Just as with other foods, organic coffee is grown without the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers, but by natural methods instead. Apart from the fact that organic coffee is better for you it is a way to protect our planet. The concern is not only the chemicals that we put in our bodies but just as important, if not more, it’s where those chemicals go that do not reach the plant but are distributed in the soils and then our streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans. And I have always felt that organic fruits, vegetables, and yes, coffee tastes better than their non organic counterparts. There seems to be more flavor from organic products than non organic.

A downside of most organic products is their cost. The price will normally be higher for organic foods but that price is going down with their increased popularity. The methods for growing organic coffee are higher than the traditional methods and price is subject to the laws of supply and demand. As more farmers begin to implement organic farming methods the supply of organic coffee increase and we should see a price drop.

When buying organic coffee make sure it is certified by an organization such as the National Organic Program. This way you are positive the coffee product you are buying is actually organic and not just claiming to be. In most supermarkets you can now find an organic section, but you don’t have any luck in the coffee section, try a specialty store that deals in coffee products only. So take a look around your community for supermarkets and coffee stores that carry organic coffee. If you don’t have any luck do a search on your computer for "organic coffee" and you find quite a few choices. When you do locate something make sure they roast the coffee after they receive your order. This will guarantee its freshness when it comes to your home. And you will find you have never had to leave your home to get fresh roasted organic coffee.
