Poke Sushi
by: Galuh Wulandarie

Fancy having sushi? Pick Poke Sushi. This two-storey place has successfully created a minimalist restaurant concept complete with a thick Japanese influence. Once you enter, the server in a traditional Japanese outfit welcomes you with a smile. A walk further into the restaurant provides you with the lovely sight of fresh red salmon, shrimps, squids and other delectable yummies atop the sushi bar. We have the General Manager’s word that these delicious looking sushi are made of only the freshest seafood. Freshness is a very important matter in the making of sushi and Poke Sushi realizes and acts on this key factor. Satisfaction is guaranteed!

If you are new in all things sushi it is a good start to sit at the sushi bar near the chef, where he can recommend the best menu for your pleasure. For those already familiar with sushi, I suggest dining at the second level and choosing the tatami seating. Here, you will have the view of Darmawangsa road from above. But as they only have 4 tatami sitting rooms, they are mostly fully booked so you have to make an advance reservation to guarantee your seats.

Poke Sushi is renowned for its fusion sushi. For instance, you can try the ‘volcano’ for an appetizer. It consists of flying fish eggs, crab stick, burdock roots with cream cheese finish. This dish is a latest addition and you will not find it in any other sushi restaurant. As for me, I will never miss the crunchy dragon roll, a sushi roll filled with tempura and cream cheese, wrapped in nori (roasted seaweed) with a sprinkle of crunchy bread. Very tasty! There are more than 40 kinds of sushi rolls to provoke your gastronomic senses and around 10 variants of sashimi, a favourite with most sushi-going crowds. As for the drink, don’t go too far from the traditional Japanese green tea. It satisfies without the bloated feeling, perfect for the sushi buffet. As for the price, it should not go over the average Rp.100, 000 per person.

Go with a group of bosom friends and enjoy the different kind of sushi with a conducive conversational setting and get a taste of the Japanese experience.
