Yet it is worth the trek up Tanglin Road as it is a virtual oasis of great beer, great food and relaxation for locals and expats alike. The menu is stocked with a fine assortment of foods normally only found in US diners and the cozy environment and the classy service will take you away to middle America for a brief moment of dining pleasure.

  Appetizers at Dan Ryan’s are almost so good that you may get filled up just on them and have no desire for a main dish, but don’t deprive yourself of some of the best tasting Western fare in the city. With a range of really good appetizers from bacon and cheddar potato skins to chilly nachos and a killer Caesar Salad, your meal at Dan Ryan’s is guaranteed to get off to a rockin’ American start.

  For a main course you have several distinct choices, all of which will have your taste buds thanking you immensely. The penne and salmon, along with the soup of the day are great choices to fill up even the emptiest of stomachs. But if you really have an appetite you can do no better than to go for any of the premium steaks that Dan Ryan’s offers. These extra thick and tantalizingly tender ChicagoStyled charred steaks range from the 16 oz Strip loin and Rib Eye steaks to the absolutely huge 24 oz Porterhouse Steak. Complete your meal with steamed broccoli or sautéed mushrooms to indulge in the true American lifestyle of junk food and football (which may be broadcasting on any of the ESPN tuned TV’s stationed throughout the place). Another main dish worth investigating is the standard Fish and Chips, which in Dan Ryan’s case is a huge, tasty fillet served with cole slaw and tartar sauce.

  Don’t fret if you’re with the little ones. Dan Ryan’s offers one of the best children’s menu around with dishes ranging from grilled cheese, chicken strips to hot dogs or spaghetti and meatballs. Be warned though, like the main menu, the portions are “American” sized, so make sure your kids are good and hungry. Also Dan Ryan’s has an extensive Dessert selection ranging from brownies and sundaes to milkshakes and New York cheesecake!

  Dan Ryan’s Chicago Grill has friendly, cozy atmosphere, yet it is a large restaurant and bar. Sitting inside you may feel transported to one of the great old train stations on Chicago ’s north side or New York ’s Grand Central. The bar even has a toy train that rides around above you on an elevated track!
