Mention “wine” and it is common to associate it with exorbitant prices together with morsels of finger food or pairing a bottle off with a flamboyant display of French cuisine. Wine Garage gives the best of both worlds. With an impressive display of wine bottles and a wine list of over a thousand labels, it spells a haven of the world's best red and white wines, served alongside with top-grade ingredients making up the food menu.
The Vibe Choose between casual dining alfresco or a more intimate interior; the interior is slightly colder with a large wine cellar displaying endless bottles of wines “parked” with their labels shown (instead of just the corks). Adjacent to the Singapore River, dining alfresco is just as breezy with a casual touch to it.
The Food Wine Garage is not all about their thousand bottles of wines – it is the food that satisfies the palate and complements the wine. Start off with Skewers of Pork Belly & Watermelon ($9), a crispy and juicy concoction of pork and watermelon, where a generous drizzle of honey over roasted pork appeals to every sweet sense on the tongue. Whilst their Home Made Potato Chips with Blue Cheese Fondue ($9) is addictive, save your tummy for the selection of oysters – raw, poached or fried ($5 each), featuring different cooking methods to bring out a different flavour and texture of the large fresh oysters.
The restaurant also serves nothing less than premium cuts of meats. The Roasted Lamb ($40), served with vegetables and macaroni gratin, exhibits a grade of tender meat like no others. Accompanying it is a dish of creamy and rich baked macaroni although some pasta pieces were a little hardened. On a lighter note, their Crispy Seabass ($39), like its name suggests, hides away silky smooth fish meat beneath its crispy skin. Rich with fish oil, this dish hits the nostrils and rewards the taste-buds with soft and ocean-fresh white meat. Craving for more? The “Garage” Burger ($21; $25 with bacon) is not to be missed. Soft homemade buns encase tender beef patties oozing with juice, whilst hand-cut fries are tasty and extremely delicious. This is the dish to satisfy the hungry stomach, as well as impress the toughest food critic.
Pair these dishes off with Wine Garage range of wines; patrons may sample up to 16 glasses of wine should they decide not to open a bottle thanks to Wine Garage's Cruvinet system which keeps wines fresh after the bottle has been opened. Sampled that evening was Albarino (Spain 2005), a refreshing dose of sparkling white wine with a strong alcoholic punch delivered, a great choice for dessert wine lovers.
Of desserts, indulge in Molten Chocolate Cake ($11), their version of lava chocolate cake with rich dark chocolate oozing out from delicious baked chocolate cake. Equally scrumptious will be the Traditional Apple Torte ($11) with a scoop of apple sorbet to beat the heat whilst chomping on large chunks of apples and crusted pastry.
The Service Staff at Wine Garage profess their love for the job with such earnestness, hence the drive behind such excellent service. Bubbling with enthusiasm, friendly waiters and waitresses deliver prompt and professional service backed by their knowledge of food and wine served within the restaurant.
