Opened as a family-styled Indian restaurant, the feel of Chat Masala…Too! is somewhat playful and spirited, presenting a table of varied robust flavours from North and South India for all to savour. With its pioneer branch Chat Masala located along Siglap, sister establishment Chat Masala… Too! is planted in the midst of the tranquil Greenwood Avenue , and breaks away from being simply an extension of its Siglap branch, for the dishes served here reflect a greater experimental nature that is short of anything predictable.
The Vibe Cheerily furnished with orange and classic black, this is one place where everyone is invited to have a sumptuous Indian feast in a comfortable and unpretentious fashion. The eye-catching mural impressions of African women that run along the entire wall of Chat Masala… Too! are painstakingly hand painted by co-owner Mr. Sadesh Menon, who loves to place a personal touch to his restaurant to enhance its bone fide warmth. Diners can choose to seat themselves in its main dining space enclosed in glass where they can gaze out onto the lazy neighbourhood, or head out to the courtyard where a more rustic and intimate ambience is afforded for larger groups.
The Food Presenting a plethora of creamy North Indian dishes, together with spicy South Indian delicacies, a meal at Chat Masala… Too! is a well-rounded experience that will have you tasting the best that the country has got to offer in one simple setting. Tempting aromas that waft from the kitchen into the restaurant further teases guests in the mood for some serious feasting. And it is no wonder, for its kitchen is headed by the talented cookbook writer and veteran food consultant Ms. Dhershini Winodan, who weaves magic with spices into all her culinary creations.
Noted for its taste and colour, it would be ideal to order a Paneer Tikka Masala ($11.80) to accompany a plain naan or briyani . This is a vegetarian version of the fragrant butter chicken, and delightfully topped off with cubes of Indian cottage cheese, making this creamy curry an appetizing choice to inaugurate your senses for some heavy duty eating. Turn things up a notch with the specialty Kerala Fish Curry ($13.80) that features a boneless red snapper permeated thoroughly with the various spices that gives it its distinct aroma, and leaves a tingling sensation at the back of the tongue upon savouring. Another hot favourite, in all sense of the word, is the Palak Paneer ($11.80) curry made of spinach gravy that will go perfectly with a piquant Mutton Briyani ($12.80).
Refresh your palates with the divine daily creations of Mr. Sadesh as he whips up healthy juices and other concoctions to keep his menu exciting. Be sure to ask him for the daily SD specials, and you might just be pleasantly surprised!
The SD Food Advisor's take on Chat Masala… Too!
