Crossroads Cafe: A Meeting Place for All
Reviewed by : Jane Ng. Other Foodadvisor Writers?
Life is such that along the way, paths cross, adventures happen and friendships are formed. No one determines why, how or when it occurs. As aptly as it is named, Crossroads Café is a melting pot where people from all walks of life come together to enjoy a smorgasbord of international cuisines including Western, Asian and local fare. There is no need to set a date or make reservations at Crossroads Café, for its unparalleled location along the bustling Orchard Road is where unaware patrons stumble upon a perfect place to relax and enjoy some gastronomic cuisines with their company. Next, they realize that Crossroads Café, like the precious friendships they forge along the way, is a gem.

  • The Vibe
Crossroads Café offers indoor dining areas to cater to patrons who wish to get away from the heat of the day, and alfresco dining spaces for those who enjoy the warmth of our tropical island. Alfresco, Crossroads Cafe features large overhead fans and casual seating to provide a relaxed dining environment. The large and comfy rattan-like chairs coupled with a breezy and airy atmosphere make you want to linger for a while longer. The casual mood in the air emanates a laid-back and relaxed feel for an enjoyable and unpretentious get-together with friends. Being a side-walk café, Crossroads offers you a great place to people watch and completely lose track of time.
  • The Food
If you are hungry and tired from a long day of shopping, the Cajun Salmon Fillet with Mango Salsa ($28.80) will definitely perk you up. Served with mango vinaigrette, seasonal vegetables and garlic herb new potatoes, it is a dish that will win your heart. The soft and tender salmon drizzled with mango salsa leaves a savory sweet taste in your mouth after it gently slips down your throat – such an impeccable match of flavors which makes you wonder why no one had thought of it earlier.

Release the carnivore in you with the Crossroads Grilled Steak Sandwich with mushrooms, onions and buffalo mozzarella cheese ($21). Highly commendable, the hearty slab of meat in the sandwich is juicy, smoky and flavorful, while the mushroom and cheese gives the sandwich an added punch.

Health-conscious individuals may look under the Fit for You menu which offers dishes with minimal carbohydrates, less or no fats and low cholesterol. The Grilled Raspberry Chicken with Toasted Almonds ($16.50) allows one to eat healthy without compromising on taste. Even though the chicken is slightly too dry, the toasted almonds compensate with its unique distinct taste while the raspberries keeps each mouthful refreshing.

If you are in the mood for a plate of Hainanese Chicken Rice ($19.50), the iconic dish of Singapore , is served with a bowl of piping hot chicken broth and traditional condiments such as ginger, chili, and dark soy sauce. The chicken is smooth and succulent, and its sesame oil remarkably tasty. In addition, the chef has perfected the culinary art of blending the chili - a good mix of sweet, sour and spicy tastes. However, the rice does have room for improvement for it is rather dry by its own.

Do take note that pictures only reflect sampling portions, and serving sizes are actually larger.

  • The Service
Top-notch service was had from members of staff who never cease to please. Expect a friendly and cheery atmosphere as you enjoy the excellent spread of international favourites.

The SD Food Advisor's take on Crossroads Café
With cuisines to cater for everyone and a convenient location to stop by after a shopping trip, Crossroads Café is a good place to satisfy your hunger and take a rest. Even though the prices may seem slightly steep at first glance, it is actually quite value-for-money considering its large portions.
