Japanese sushi and sashimi, known for its exotic and artistic preparation, together with its many health benefits, has always been a highly favoured cuisine for many. Hence it is no surprise why many would go that extra mile for some quality Japanese food.
The Vibe :
Located in the secluded Greenwood Ave along Bukit Timah Road is Raku Japanese Restuarant, alongside a few other upcoming restaurants. As you marvel at the modern-minimalist dimly-lit designer concept furnishing, the elegant ambience induces one to relax and to enjoy the finer things in life.
The Food :
The lure to Raku would be the buffet spread ($59++) which consisted of a substantial variety. Presentation of the dishes were pleasing to the eye. The Raku special in-house salad had just enough serving for one to devour in delight to cleanse the palate before embarking on the rest of the dishes. The freshness of the sashimi were mediocre. When asked for a second serving of sashimi, it took us a long wait and surprisingly, this time the slices were smaller and lesser, much to our disappointment.
A unique dish will be the agedashi tofu, drizzled with 'pitan' yoke oozing on each bite and sprinkled with a generous portion of fresh salmon roe. Seafood lovers preferring a heavier meal can try the seafood tempura and deep fried dishes such as the ebi fried with wasabi mayo and oyster. Be warned for another long wait if you request for a second serving.
On the buffet list are also the fish and chicken porridge, udon and cha soba for those who opt for a more wholesome meal. Diners with small appetite can always order from the a la carte menu, cooked fresh on the spot for you and perhaps, render a shorter waiting period.
Tea lovers be prepared to pay a startling $6 for ocha during lunch time while it becomes $3 during dinner time. The difference in price has us all puzzled.
The Service :
It was not easy to get the attention of the service staff even though there were a few of them around. Somehow we seemed to be oblivion to them at times. Be patient and you will catch their attention at the right timing.
