The Tea Party: A Rendezvous of Food and Play
Reviewed by : Viviane Then. Other Foodadvisor Writers?
Living the Lazy Larry lifestyle can be addictive at times, especially in a place like The Tea Party. Armed with a kitchen of simple yet flavoursome dishes and a whole rack of board games, The Tea Party becomes a place to visit to satisfy the hungry stomach, a healthy craving as well as an afternoon's worth of entertainment – all in one venue.

  • The Vibe
Sofas, lounge-chairs and plush armchairs, together with low tables make up a simple yet outstanding interior of the cafe. Its ceiling and walls painted a startling contrast of black against the backdrop of a bright red counter. The colour scheme sets the laidback mood for patrons. A short climb up to the second storey reveals a more intimate lounging area, where sofas are aplenty with lots of privacy to laze on quieter afternoons.
  • The Food
Like its name suggests, The Tea Party brings in top-grade tea leaves from different continents, with shelves of white, green as well as black tea. With the trend of healthy eating escalating amongst health-conscious Singaporeans, an infusion of fragrant white tea would be the best excuse to indulge without guilt. Try the Vanilla Jasmine Tea ($3.90 a cup; $6.90 a pot; $4.50 iced), aromatic to the senses and light to the palate. Best drunk without sugar, an aftertaste of sweet jasmine lingers at the back of the throat, making it an excellent choice as a dessert tea. Of course, there are other teas to choose from, so do feel free to ask for recommendations.

Munch on tasty favourites like Fish & Chips ($8.90), a generous serving of fried gull chips with thick fries, as well as local-influenced Roast Duck Pizza ($12.95) with the latter being a personal favourite. Chunks of tender duck meat placed atop a thin pizza crust rich with melted cheese. Of course, sweet and juicy sauce oozed out upon each bite into this savoury delight, it was only natural to continue with the rest of the pizza. A slight warning: this dish is best not to be shared if one loves duck meat and its accompanying sauce. There was also the Prawns Aglio ($9.50), a simple plate of linguine tossed in smooth olive oil and fresh tiger prawns. Moist with olive oil and spiced up with chilli padi, aglios at The Tea Party are a treat by themselves.

Do away with the ice-creams and pastries for desserts this time round – the scones at The Tea Party are a must-try! Choices of Chocolate Chip, Cranberry, and Raisin Scones ($2.30 each) are served with home-made strawberry cream cheese or butter. Warm and heavenly, these scones are rich and buttery yet not too heavy on the stomach. Light cream cheese spread enhances the crumbly goodness. They sell like hotcakes, so grab them early if possible.

  • The Service
Be served by restaurant owners to experience a touch of “home”. Alternatively, one often feels so at home over at The Tea Party such that their friendly service was never an issue to begin with. Sink in those comfy sofas and feel right at home in The Tea Party.

The SD Food Advisor's take on The Tea Party
The Tea Party provides a great venue to lounge whilst sipping health-enhancing flavoured tea; it is easy to idle away time at this cosy cafe from their vast library of magazines, board games as well as availability of a wireless connection. Be it a meal or a light snack, The Tea Party is always an ideal place for a casual stopover in between shopping, work or studies.
