Windows on Club Street: A Brazilian Churrasco Affair, Alfresco-style
Reviewed by : Hildra Gwee. Other Foodadvisor Writers?
The patrons of Club Street will be no strangers to the very laidback alfresco style of Windows that has recently introduced a Brazilian Churrasco affair. Those deterred by the idea of dining outdoors on a humid day can be rest assured that the shady marquees that are installed above every table keeps everyone under it cool and suitably comfortable. Designed in warm yellows and dark browns on the interior, with a boardwalk exterior, Windows sure emanates an aura of debonair, inviting all to just relax and enjoy sumptuous food in the company of friends.

Seated beneath one of the many maroon shades, we were initiated into our Brazilian experience with what its cuisines are famous for, unlimited servings of delicious grilled meat and fresh greens. Sliced straight from the skewer and onto our plates by the Brazilian Passador, the juices and warmth from the meat was amazingly appetizing, with just the right succulence. The fresh salad, potato salads and coleslaw served as refreshing accompaniments to the four different meats that we sampled. In addition, a unique mix of vinegar, tomatoes and onions was blended to allow for those who would appreciate adding a zesty flavour to their meat. As expected, we found the lamb shoulder, beef topside, chicken thigh and pork sausage individually sumptuous and sinful, although the chef could have been less enthusiastic with the salt usage during preparation. My dining partner especially loved the beer-marinated chicken, which was incredibly tender and full-flavoured.

Apart from meats, Windows does love to offer its guests a variety of other grilled delights like seafood and mushrooms. We got to sample the matsutake mushrooms, which was my personal favourite of the meal because of its chewy texture and subtle hints of natural sweetness. A fusion of cream and spice, the Penne in Creamy Vodka Tomato Sauce with Salmon ($16) was certainly commendable as well, although it should be noted that it is only available for dinner. For sandwich lovers, you will not be disappointed with the variety that this bistro can give you. Order a churrasco sandwich and enjoy the pleasure of watching your meal prepared, with the Passador slicing the meat right onto your choice of Multigrain, Ciabatta, Rye or Focaccia bread.

Being an unadventurous eater, I was spooked by the idea of eating the chicken heart that was served during our meal as well. Surprisingly, it was quite aromatic and did not look like what it used to look like! Other gourmet selections include the Ox Tongue sandwich that holds strong Jewish links, and is one of the bestsellers of Windows.

To conclude the meal, we were served a unique dish of grilled pineapples and a Crème Caramel made with Gula Melaka ($5.50). The pineapples were surprisingly juicy and still held assorted flavours of the grill, giving it an interesting concoction of aromas. The Crème caramel deserves special mention as well as the fragrance of the coconut and gula melaka blended very well into the cream pudding, although the texture should have been smoother.

Overall, Windows has surprised us with its excellent culinary standards, while simultaneously charging extremely reasonable prices. This bistro both looks and tastes good, and definitely warrants repeated visits from those who love a breezy dining affair but does not want to compromise on the quality of their meals.

The Brazilian Churrasco Lunch ($25) offers a selection of four different types of meat, while the dinner ($32) offers six. Happy hours are from 3pm-8pm daily, with special offers of promotional wines, house pours and cocktails at $6 per glass.
