Jeju Island in South Korea

By: Geraldine Tan

Jeju Island (Jejudo) is a volcanic island created entirely from volcanic eruptions approximately 2 million years ago.

Being one of the worlds New 7 Wonders of Nature, naturally Jeju Island is also known as the Honeymoon Island. An hour flight from Seoul, this island is a must visit.

Three things are plentiful at this Honeymoon Island made of Volcanic Rocks; Georgeous View, Good Food and The Wind

  • The Wind
You will regret if you decide to tuck away those windbreakers of yours. The strong wind is sure to chill you to your marrows! So, wherever you go in Jeju Island, make sure you have your warm clothing (scarves, gloves, thermal wear, etc) with you.

  • Women Divers
If the weather is calm and you are lucky, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the lady divers in Jeju Island. An extremely dangerous occupation. These divers consist of older women who earn a living by selling shellfish and marine products (such as clams, mussels and seaweeds) that they collect from the seabed.
  • The Rocks
The Yongdu-am (Dragon Head Rock) is a must-see in Jeju Island. The majestic rock that faces the sea can be found at the western end of Jeju Island.

Another UNESCO Geopark, the Manjang Cave is more than eight kilometers long and you can walk one kilometer of its eerie passageway.

  • Hallasan, the Tallest Mountain
Also a dormant volcano, it is 1,950 m above sea level. Hallasan is a UNESCO Biosphere reserve containing a crater lake, alpine plants, woodpeckers, chipmunks, butterflies and beetles.
  • Jeju Loveland
This hilarious outdoor sculpture park is focused on a theme of sex, running sex education films, and featuring 140 sculptures representing humans in various sexual positions. Honeymoon couples may pick a few tips from here.
  • Hyeopjae Beach
This georgeous beach is quite long and hosts a large selection of restaurants, camping sites. Great for summer months.
  • Jungmun Beach
Most well-known beach as it is built into the massive Jeju Resort Complex. There are many impressive 5-star hotels here.
  • Gimnyeong Beach
Beautiful white sand beaches and having some of the clearest turquoise water on Jeju Island.

Visit South Korea, Jeju Island in particular. It is a trip that will take your breath away!
