Sony Ericsson kicked off the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with the announcement of a new brand called XPERIA before the conference had even started. The XPERIA range appears to be a new range of smartphones to run alongside Sony Ericsson's popular Walkman and Cybershot ranges.

The XPERIA X1 has a 3.15 megapixel camera, with autofocus and flash, it also has a built-in GPS receiver, and runs on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system. It has a touchscreen that has a customisable display allowing 9 shortcuts on the main screen, as well as ordinary buttons at the base of the screen.
It would seem that the XPERIA X1 is going after the Apple iPhone market, while it has similar features, and a nice big screen for browsing the web and watching videos, it does seem to appeal more to the business person with it's standard keyboard.
