The third largest tire manufacturer in the world, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, announced recently that they have selected a new president for their North American Tire unit. The announcement came after Jonathan D. Rich announced that he will be leaving the company to pursue other leadership options.
Goodyear announced that they have chosen Richard J. Kramer to be the resident of the outfit effective immediately. Kramer holds the position as the executive vice president and the Chief Financial Officer of North America Tire. Kramer will continue his duties as the unit's CFO until the company names a replacement for him.
Richard Kramer joined the company in March of 2002 and was elected as the Vice President for Corporate Finance of the company. In July of the same year, he was made the Vice President of Finance for the North American Tire unit. After these, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning and Restructuring for the unit in August of 2003.
His rise to the top is once again made evident in May of 2004 when he became the Chief Financial Officer of the North American Tire business. Kramer came from Cleveland and he also holds a bachelor's degree in science and business administration which he received from John Carroll University in the year 1986. Before his stint in Goodyear, Kramer spent 13 years working for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Keegan, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, has this to say about the new president of the North American Tire unit of Goodyear: "Rich Kramer has demonstrated outstanding business leadership at every level in his career and has earned the respect of his peers, his associates and Wall Street. Rich became our chief financial officer under very challenging circumstances, made courageous value-creating decisions, recruited top talent, and built a strong finance team.
"At the same time, I want to thank Jon Rich for his outstanding service to the company and the significant contributions that he made in helping to create the foundation for the future success of the North American business. Jon assembled a strong, capable team that has earned the respect of our customers in a challenging environment," added Keegan.
Jon Rich became the president of Goodyear Chemical in August of 2001 and this is just a few months after he joined the company in September of 2000. In December of 2002, Rich became the president of the North American Tire unit of the company. Before he joined the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Rich has served in many senior management roles at General Electric where he worked for 18 years.
The announcement of the new president of the North American Tire unit of Goodyear is akin to the engagement of a Centerforce clutch which will usher in a new era for the unit. Goodyear is the third largest tire manufacturer in the world, trailing only Bridgestone and Michelin. Aside from tires, the company also manufactures rubber hoses, shoe soles, and arts for electric printers.
