Hotel Bukit Dago Bandung
by: Emma Kwee

Alas, Hotel Bukit Dago has no stars to show off its reputation. Not yet that is, because with the planning of constructing a swimming pool and fitness as well as a roof top restaurant, stars are bound to appear sooner or later. It has to be said though, that despite the fact that Bukit Dago doesn't have the official proof of stardom, this hotel is of very good value if you take into account the price and what's on offer.

All 65 rooms are spotlessly clean, freshly painted and attractively decorated. The painter obviously felt creative, since all rooms spur a different colour scheme, ranging from romantic pink to candy green, so have a look around before you choose the crib that best suits your personal taste. All rooms have a/c, local and satellite colour television, hot water and include breakfast.

There are no less than 7 different categories of rooms to choose from, starting with the economical standard a, b and c, the superior a and b, the deluxe and the cottages and VIP rooms at the top end. If you prefer a bathtub instead of a shower, choose either a deluxe or a standard b or c. The cottages don't have a bathtub but are the newest addition so beds are brand new and, facing the parking lot at the back, offer a great deal of privacy. The older deluxe rooms are two storey units, with a private parking lot at the bottom and a room with bathroom up the stairs. The standard rooms have a queen size double bed, that might prove more princess size, if you aren't of the slender, willowy build that many Indonesians have.

As far as facilities go, hotel Bukit Dago for now is pretty limited. There's a small shop that sells necessities such as drinks, toothpaste and Oreo's in the lounge. Outside, the school canteen styled restaurant has a simple and cheap menu, and that is basically it. Nevertheless, the location, in the middle of Dago, 20 minutes from the train station and 10 minutes from the city center is a real asset, as are the clean and friendly rooms, the ones on the top floor being astoundingly low priced while offering great views.
