Petaling Jaya: The Alternative to Urban Living
by: Sophia

Petaling Jaya or otherwise affectionately known as PJ, is yet another food haven in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . There are no lack of mouth-watering, swashbuckling food to indulge in; sights to visit and places to chill at. Petaling Jaya is reckoned to be one of the utmost prestigious districts in Malaysia . Today, the population in PJ closely rivals that of KL's; what with the strategically located parks, restaurants, hotels and biggest shopping malls all stitched together by a good network of highways. The city is also known for one of the best gyrating nightlife and entertainment in the country.

There is no shortage of good food in Petaling Jaya and some might say that the best food in Klang Valley and Kuala Lumpur can be found here. To start off your food fest, head on down to Village Park located in Damansara Uptown, an establishment that is known for its local cuisine. For an eclectic mix of international foods, try the Ming Tien food court located in Taman Megah. The beach like environment and the al fresco concept makes it a suitable place ro unwind and relax. The only downside to this place is the music, unless you happen to enjoy Chinese techno and remixes of the latest hits. If it is aromatic Indian cuisine that you are craving for, Kanna Curry House in Section 12 serves one of the best banana leaf meals around. A variety of chicken, mutton, beef and fish is marinated in a mixture of spices and cooked separately to create many different exotic curries. Check back at SD's Food Advisor for more recommendations on places to eat in Petaling Jaya.

Petaling Jaya is also known for its world class shopping malls. It is here that you'll be able to experience shopping with a difference. Each mall has its own identity and theme. The Egyptian theme can be explored at Sunway Pyramid where else 1 Utama and Mid Valley MegaMall exudes elegance and class and caters to those looking to wear out their shoes. These are sizeable shopping precincts and are much newer and trendier; catering to the younger crowd with cinemas, bowling alleys, cozy cafés, shops and more shops. It comes as no surprise then that many of Petaling Jaya's shopping malls are rated as being the top in the country.

Travelers need not fret when it comes to accommodation. There are rampant choices like Armada Hotel, Hilton Petaling Jaya and Lisa De Inn all over PJ. Lisa De Inn is a charming three-star inn, with quirky frills-like décor on the exterior that makes the structure look like a slice of wedding cake. Hilton Petaling Jaya and Eastin Hotel are higher end hotels that offer luxurious stays, along with corporate facilities for the busy traveler. There is no lack of choices for one who craves convenience and comfort; most of the hotels in PJ are interconnected by highways and sightseeing attractions are also highly accessible. When a choice of hotel has been decided upon, ask your friendly local staff for brochures and tips on must-visit places.
