1 Utama: Shopping and Entertainment Under One Roof
by: Sophia

1 Utama Shopping Centre is one of the top destinations for shopping in Klang Valley . Located at the entrance of Bandar Utama along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway, it is easily accessible by visitors coming from Petaling Jaya, Damansara, Kepong, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Bangsar and basically anywhere else around the Klang Valley . It boasts 6 retail floors and has over 5 million square feet of retail space so wear comfortable shoes when planning a trip to 1 Utama. The shopping centre is divided into seven different themed zones; Highstreet, Oval, Rainforest, Promenade, Centre Court , Courtyard and the Entertainment Zone . Each zone has something different to offer and shoppers can expect something unique at every corner.

The name Highstreet is pretty much self-explanatory. Shoppers can expect to see the latest collections of some of the world's most famous boutiques such as Versace, Polo Ralph Lauren, Zara, MNG, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Armani, FCUK, Calvin Klein and many more. This particular section caters to women with deep pockets or in some cases, women with men who have very deep pockets. To compliment this high end section of 1 Utama, restaurants and cafés are spread out in between retail outlets. Take a pit stop at Coffee Bean or Bakerzin for some refreshments and if you're planning to stay all the way through lunch and dinner, try American Chili's, Dragon I or many of the other dining outlets that are sprawled across this titan shopping mall.

The Oval and Centre Court is 1 Utama's answer to fun and happening events. These two areas are prime locations for international fashion shows, product launches, celebrity launches as well as roadshows. Nokia, Osim and Samsung are just some of the names that have graced these floors with their fun and exciting activities.

1 Utama has their very own Rainforest filled with the colours and beauty of nature. The core habitants of the Rainforest consist of café's and restaurants. A variety of Asian, Western and European cuisine is available amidst the forest trees and its man-made waterfall. Among some of the notable restaurants include Italiannies, Chatterbox, Secret Recipe and Bar B Q Plaza.

Promenade consists of two different sections; the main Promenade and Promenade Lakeside. Promenade Lakeside offers a variety of outdoor activities. Sealantis Dive Centre is one of the main attractions as they offer scuba diving lessons by professional trainers. A swimming pool is available for lessons to be conducted within the shopping complex itself. It's not exactly the most practical or logical business to open in a shopping mall but there's no complaints when there are lots of women in bikinis and men in trunks involved. In addition, Pet's Wonderland is the perfect place to find a new addition to the family whether it be a new puppy or an exotic iguana. If animals and diving don't tickle your fancy, head over to the main Promenade area where more shopping opportunities await.

The newest addition to 1 Utama Shopping Centre is the Entertainment Zone. Golden Screen Cinemas provides 13 state of the art screens for your viewing pleasure. While waiting for movies to begin, strap on some bowling shoes and knock down some pins in any of the 36 lanes at U Bowl. A modest arcade centre and a family karaoke centre can also be found atop the bowling alley. 1 Utama is also proud to present Asia 's largest indoor rock climbing gym, Camp5. Prices might be steeper than some of its walls but with the state of the art equipment and the many different routes available, the experience is definitely worthwhile.

The Courtyard offers a shopping experience of a different kind, a non-fashion related kind. It's mostly filled with outlets geared towards home décor and furnishing. This area is sometimes referred to as a safe haven for men where they can participate in retail therapy by picking up more manly items such as hammers, screwdrivers, car polish, carving knives and the likes.

There's no need to brave the traffic congestion to the city now that Petaling Jaya has its very own world class shopping centre. It is fully equipped with wireless internet and has all the conveniences such as restrooms, ample parking lots, wheel chair access and baby stroller services. 1 Utama provides the ultimate shopping, dining and entertainment experience. It's no wonder that this magnificent 6-storey mall has won numerous awards for its achievements.
