Of interest to shopping enthusiasts here are a wide choice of antique items, quaint handicraft products, art and deco pieces and a bewildering range of bric-a-brac. Modern shopping malls include Mahkota Parade, Jaya Jusco, The Store and Kotamas Shopping Complex. Shopping complexes are generally open from 10.00am to 10.00pm, 7 days a week

 

o        Handicraft

Popular handicrafts from Malacca include a range of products made from wicker, mengkuang (screwpine), seashell, coconut, batik, wood and pottery. These handicrafts can be found at stores along Jalan Taman, Mahligai Kraf at the Tourist Information Centre at Jalan Kota, Syarikat Pemasaran Karyaneka Sdn Bhn in Jalan Kota and the handicraft centre at Mini Malaysia, Ayer Keroh.

 

o        Antiques

Jonker Street (renamed as Jalan Hang Jebat) in the older section of the city is a haven for antique collectors and bargain hunters. Authentic artifacts and relics, some dating as far back as 300 years, can be found among a host of interesting collectibles, each with its own history and mystery.

Malacca is famous for local products such as cincaluk (fermented shrimp relish), gula melaka (palm sugar), dodol and a variety of titbits. Visitors can also browse around ethnic stores for traditional lanterns, clogs, bangles, perfumed oils and calligraphy pieces.
