River Valley Raffles Institution once owned Institution Hill

The Trustees of Raffles Institution once owned Institution Hill which comprised 28 acres of land. In December 1844 the Trustees sold the land to be used as a burial ground. The free Press said that the sale was 'to be deprecated' and it was called off. The Hill was bought by Adam Sykes and Mungo Johnston Martin in 1845 and finally it went into the hands of Dr Robert Little who lived on the Hill for 35 years.

On the Hill can be seen today several old houses in varying stages of neglect and decay. The River Valley Community Centre is at the foot of the Hill.
