About
Buona Vista is a sub-zone under the Queenstown district. Buona Vista is divided between the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC and the West Coast GRC. The MP representing the portion belonging to Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, which includes Holland Drive and Holland Village is Lim Swee Say.
History
North Buona Vista Road was officially named in 1972. The name ‘Buona Vista' literally translates to mean ‘good view' in Italian. The district is so named because of the great view it offers from the hilly geography of its area.
Places of Interest
Buona Vista hides an infamously hilly winding road that navigates through Kent Ridge and highly sought after by thrill-seekers and racers alike.
The Grassroots Heritage Centre, located at South Buona Vista Road, wase stablished by the National Community Leadership Institute to educate the community on the evolvement of the People Associations' grassroots organizations their active promotion for racial harmony and social cohesion.
Rochester Park was launched in 2006 as a heritage site off North Buona Vista Road. It features several double-storey black-and-white colonial bungalows as a representation of Singapore 's colonial past. Rochester Park consists of Rochester Park 11, a dining and lifestyle retail hub, and Rochester Park 20, a serviced villa resort with commercial facilities.
Industrial
Buona Vista is considered the local education hub, as it houses the Ministry of Education and The Civil Service College, both of which are dedicated to the development of the education system and teachers in Singapore.
Science and technology hubs are also found in Buona Vista, in the form of one-north, Biopolis and Fusionopolis, where R&D and high technology industries will thrive at.
Residential
One-north offers a great variety of housing options. The upcoming highlight of residences in Buona Vista is one-north Residences, a joint venture by Kheng Leong, UOL & Low Keng Huat that is expected to be completed in 2009.
Transportation
Buona Vista has a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) train station by the same name on the East-West Line. Once the phase one of the Circle Line is completed in 2010, Buona Vista MRT Station (EW21) will serve as an interchange between the East-West Line and Circle Line.
