About: There are nine sub-zones Bendemeer, Geylang Bahru, Boon Keng, Bugis, Tanjong Rhu, Lavender, Kampong Java, Kallang Bahru and Crawford.
History: Kallang Airport used to occupy part of the area. The airport was on land reclaimed in 1937. It closed down in 1955 when the airport moved to Paya Lebar. The airport terminal building is now occupied by the People’s Association as its headquarters.
Residential: Urban waterfront development with many private residences in Kampong Bugis, Tanjong Rhu and along the banks of the Kallang River.
Industrial: Major fringe commercial centre with offices and shops in Lavender and New World. The Kallang River is a popular water sport activity area.
