Tampines is known as the activity hub of the East and for its merit in Excellent Housing Design, winning a United Nations World Habitat Award. With all the facilities such as new schools, shops, markets, beautiful playgrounds and two golf courses, it has everything its residents could want. And shopping is a major leisure activity here. This is particularly evident when you approach Tampines Mall on the weekends.

Completed in 1995, Tampines Mall hosts over 150 shops on five floors with a wide-range of apparel outlets, restaurants, home-furnishing and gadget stores. Key tenants include Isetan, Golden Village, Courts and Yamaha Music. With such a variety catering to all, it is not surprising that this mall is extremely popular with the younger families, the Fashionistas living in and around the Tampines suburb as well as the old and just everybody altogether. This mall is such a big attraction for teens especially because there are all these interesting and affordable Korean items such as earrings and bags found in shops like Helen Accessories, Mini Bits and push cart Pink Q. Apparel stores such as Ice Lemon Tea and Flower Power are also not to be missed.

First impression matters and this mall certainly did a good job of creating one. The layout has been designed to give each shop maximum visibility and exposure. With a partial glass façade, it gives a sneak peep into shops like the Chinese restaurant Din Tai Fung. And speaking about restaurants, here in Tampines Mall be prepared to have to select from a range of Chinese cuisines to Western and others. Try out the delicious steaks at Phin’s Beerhouse & Grille. You can also opt for a more relaxed ambience in the Bali Thai Restaurant or simply have some light snacks from Umeya Sweets such as dried Hokkaido squid and Japanese jellies to have on the go.

Tampines Mall is the only suburban mall with outlets of all three major telecommunication providers – Singtel, Starhub and M1. Shoppers have also several options to choose from – for stationery products there’s the Times Bookstore and Popular; for glitzy apparel labels there’s Mango, Dano and more; toiletries range from Crabtree & Evelyn to cheap Taiwanese products.

Have your cash ready if you intend to do some serious shopping as the ATM machines are pretty much tucked away and it would not be easy for you to locate them.
