21 April – 9 May 2006
10am – 8pm @ Gallery – Arts House
Co-presented by Japan Foundation, Embassy of Japan and The Arts House in commemoration of 40 Years of the Establishment of Diplomatic Ties between Japan and Singapore, The Dolls of Japan is an introduction to the present day artistic world of dolls, with their tradition and deep involvement in the modern life of Japanese people.
The dolls reflect the customs of Japan and the aspirations of its people, possess distinctive regional attributes, and over the centuries have developed in many diverse forms. Dolls also provide a showcase for traditional Japanese craft products, such as textiles. Through the way these dolls embody the rich yet gentle spirit of their ancestors, it is hoped that this exhibition will bring about greater understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture.
