If you're like a lot of us, you'd like to be able to make an extra income to keep you and your family insulated from the worst that the current economic uncertainties may bring. You may even be looking for something which will allow you to dispense entirely with your current job. By getting into affiliate marketing, you could make a full time income while working on your own schedule all from the comfort of home - best of all, you can often make enough to live on as an affiliate marketer by working less than you currently do! There are also many who are able to make significantly larger incomes as an affiliate marketer than they did in their previous careers.
None of this is meant to give you the impression that you'll somehow become wealthy beyond your wildest dreams overnight by becoming an affiliate marketer. Like any business, you'll get out of it what you put into it and if you want to be successful, you will have to invest some time and effort. However, it can be a very rewarding career both financially and personally; wouldn't you really rather make money for yourself than for someone else anyhow?
Affiliate marketing is also a great choice for those with schedules which don't permit them to work traditional full time jobs: stay at home parents, retirees and students have all found this to be the right career path for them. It's easy to get started in affiliate marketing and other than the cost of setting up a website, it is generally free to begin as well, so there's no substantial startup costs to speak of in affiliate marketing.
By now, you're probably wondering just what affiliate marketing is, anyway. It's a simple enough concept - this is an agreement between a website owner (the affiliate) and a business with a product or service to sell (the merchant). The affiliate promotes the merchant's products and is paid a commission for each sale that they refer to the merchant. Affiliates receive a special link to place on their websites which tracks the origin of the visitor, who goes through to the merchant's website via this link. Most merchants give you a website to promote so you don`t have to learn any of the technical stuff to build your own site.
Of course, the affiliate then needs to get as many visitors as possible to their website if they want to have a chance of having their visitors click this link and make a purchase from the merchant. As an affiliate, you'll want to create content for your website which is relevant to the products you're promoting - this ensures that the people who visit your site will be interested in the kinds of products and services you are promoting. By appealing to people who are already likely candidates to buy from the merchant, you'll make far more sales; and thus commissions.
There are a lot of different ways to drive more traffic to your website; as an affiliate marketer, this is what a lot of your efforts to build your business will go towards. Like any other kind of website, traffic is the key to success - we'll cover this later on, but the right traffic driving strategies can make all the difference between a successful affiliate marketing venture and one which never quite gets off the ground.
