Films released as 3D in theaters will also provide a 3D experience on DVD and Blu-Ray with 3D glasses. The first Blu-ray 3D disk will be the Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert released by Disney studios in August 2008. This was shown on Disney Channel with red-cyan paper 3D glasses in July 2008.



When it is released in blu-ray, it will most likely use similar 3D glasses. Thanks to Disney’s research, and the greater clarity of blue-ray, there have been great improvements in red-cyan anaglyph 3D glasses, particularly as they relate to the close overlay of 3D images, like Disney uses in their animation products. When put up against the older techniques of polarization or anaglyphs, most 3D images in theatres showing Disney films display much reduced mal-registration.

What makes 3D Anaglyph Glasses trick your brain into seeing in 3D?

3D glasses with the correct coloring cause anaglyphs to display a slightly altered image to each eye. For example: red-blue anaglyph 3D glasses cause the eye viewing through the red filter to to see red images as "white," and blue images as "black." (with the brain providing some adaption for color)When you cover the eye with the blue filter, you will see the opposite effect. Pure black or white areas could be perceived the same by every eye In the brain, the images from the two eyes are blended together and the differences are interpreted as being a change of distances. The result? An ordinary stereograph image, but one that doesn't make you go cross-eyed!
