Self Improvement and Motivation
You will learn to share some deep things about yourself that you had never shared with another human being. After one of your sessions when you shared some serious stuff that you have never told anyone before you will feel great relief. For example, if you have issues that caused you to use drugs or alcohol in the first place then talking about them in therapy can help you right away. Not next week or next year, but right now.

Most of us have kept our emotions crammed down in us for a long time and in therapy it will all come out some day. I can tell you from my experience that it's a tremendous relief.

Here are 5 reasons you should choose addiction therapy.

1. Make the decision that you do in fact need addiction therapy. This is a big step so don't take it lightly. Addiction therapy worked for me or I would not recommend it to you. If you can fully commit to seeing a therapist on a regular basis then you are that much closer to getting well.

2. Find the right therapist. Always be sure to try more than one therapist if you're not sure about the one you've got because you want to be able to really open up to them. Don't expect instant rapport but also change things up if you're not clicking after a few short weeks. It is good to find a high comfort level with someone so that you can share deeply.

3. Make a commitment to yourself and someone you are close to that you will attend one therapy session per week. When we are committed to out recovery we have a better chance of remaining clean.

4. Keep attending your meetings while you are in therapy.

We have to remember we need the support of are new friends at our meetings. Therapy is our overall guideline, but the program is likely to be the backbone of our recovery. Keep the focus on personal growth and working through the steps if that is the program you are following.

5. Ask your sponsor for their experience, strength and hope.

Your sponsor is there to make suggestions and can help you with early recovery. A sponsor is different from a therapist of course, because they are a guide for taking you through the steps in the 12 step program. A therapist is more of a guide for your overall life and recovery, and can help you tackle issues that are not necessarily spiritual growth oriented.

Each person fills a role in recovery. Both your sponsor and your therapist play a significant role in helping you through recovery so if you want to stay clean then utilize both of them. Take the lessons offered from each and use them to help you in your life and in your recovery.
Alcohol And Drug Addiction Recovery
Now I could give you a whole list of bulleted signs here, but I'm not going to do that (if you want that feel free to visit my website) - because rather than give you a whole bunch of symptoms, I want to give you what I believe is the most telling one.

There is a common misconception amongst people who believe that alcoholism or drug addiction is purely caused by how much you drink or use drugs. I don't believe that to be the case.

It will of course be obvious to you at certain times that a person is suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction. A drug addict for example will be so advanced in their addiction that their life simply revolves around their habit and doing anything else is almost impossible.

Similarly the alcoholic will be so far down the road with their alcoholism that they don't have a life anymore - it's totally fallen apart - relationships, job, practically everything.

Many drug addicts and alcoholics aren't yet that advanced with their addiction, however. So the secret is to see the signs and symptoms of alcoholism and drug addiction, before it gets that advanced.

So the most important sign of alcoholism or drug addiction - is that your life starts to become effected by your using or drinking - and that you are increasingly struggling to cope with things on a daily basis.

So it means you're probably thinking more and more about the next chance you'll get to have a drink or use your drug of choice, your work is beginning to suffer, your relationships are starting to be affected - and unless you have that drink or take your drugs you increasingly find yourself struggling to cope (even if it is just mentally still because using or drinking provide you with a certain emotional comfort)

The problem is, that it is usually difficult to pick up on this alcoholism or drug addiction symptom, because it happens quickly and if often subtle. Denial usually prevents you seeing what is happening in your own case unless you are able to be really honest with yourself - or if it's a person you care about, look out for changes in attitude, behaviour or mood.

Signs of alcoholism and drug addiction are numerous - but if you can see this one and hopefully catch the addiction early - treatment and recovery should be easier and your chances of success far greater.
