He in love wants to show up at her door with flowers and diamonds. Alas in youth his pockets are near empty.
And then as war torn Africa became infamous for blood money exchanging stolen diamonds many women recoiled, as they have done against the cruelty of animals to supply them with furs.
However in this past decade another major phenomena has happened, and it again separates generations. Now my grand daughters are part of this new more aware and independent thinkers than their mothers or grand mothers, and they have discovered the net and auctions.
And as they have learned in school that a grand new flood of clean pure diamonds from the new discoveries in the north of Canada are allowing them to rejoice at their investment on the net in a new Polar Bear Diamond of their very own collection.
If at these prices they build a collection, they could get them appraised and one day have a deposit on their own condo. Their mothers shake their heads and watch in amazement, as my daughters tell me they now do. There are now some cute real live nice ladies learning independence and planning and investing wisely.
They have a plan of attack, which when you think they never listen, you are some times hear your boring words of advise come out original, pure and clean from an intelligent grand daughter. And when you find this happening you must be quiet and nod understandingly at her discoveries and admire her deeply for her wisdom, and tell her so.
The young ladies gather around the new computer I presented grand daughter Katie for graduating. They go into several sites. There are plenty of admiring comments, and amazed squeals of delight at the low bid auction prices of some precious diamonds and gemstones.
Then, they are off down into town and several malls, where they share one of those high priced cups of coffee, and they walk the mall and check the prices in each jewelry and department store. They giggle, and whisper loud enough to be heard saying these prices are too much!
They laugh their way on home, and go back into the computer. They look over the pages of choices between diamonds beyond price for now, and those that are low for the bidding. They bid, they go their ways, they return, they check around some more.
And I notice the differing life paths my two grandsons and two grand daughters are moving towards. My oldest grandson is 22 and works in the oil fields of Alberta where he is now a foreman: he misses us and drives the thousand miles home to visit often. His younger brother worked with me in construction and is now working to earn his ticket.
The boys spend much time on computers but in different ways than their sisters. They argue and look up facts about cars, maps of the oil fields and where the next project is about to open up. The sites of the largest machines on earth chewing through cliffsides of oily sand.
Meanwhile, the girls have heard about the vast new diamond fields far to the north of the oil fields and that there are occasional excess diamond sales on the net. They have more fun at home around their computers, sipping herbal teas and telling gossip about whoever did not come along.
But with part time job money while they go beyond high school, they now invest in a valuable sales bargain. Katie has a plan, the boys spend each pay check.
And with the wide vast net they know they can afford some gem that they will have either forever, or until some local friends absolutely loves it so much she will pay way more, and then still less than that version at the mall.
And my young grand daughter has some thriving thoughts in her mind. She knows about buy low and sell high and investing as opposed to consuming. So diamonds are forever. And they should also be for she who earns and deserves.
Beyonce Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend
In Spain when men propose marriage to women and receive affirmation, they present them with traditional engagement rings - and then their fiancees often return the honor by presenting their men with men's diamond watches. They are a type of designer-luxury item that one would not give every day, but for that once-in-a-lifetime gift that is more than just a bauble, diamond watches are ideal.
Watch History
Clocks and timepieces have been around almost as long as human history, but mechanical clocks are a fairly recent innovation, having come into existence only about 700 years ago. The closest thing to the modern mens diamond watch was a primitive device invented in Europe during the 1400s; the first watches were miniature versions of the same device, worn around the neck. As these shrank in size over the next two centuries, they eventually became the traditional pocket watch - an anachronism that many men still use.
The Ladies' Diamond Watch
The first true wristwatches really were diamond watches. These were small timepieces integrated into actual diamond jewelry bracelets for women who were members of European royalty. Although 19th century jeweler Paket Phillipe et Cie is generally credited with creating the first true ladies' diamond watch for Hungarian Countess Kosewitz in 1868, there are references to such "watch bracelets" dating back as far as 1572, when the Earl of Leicester presented Queen Elizabeth I with a round watch, inlaid with diamonds, which was suspended from a wristband. Most historians consider this to be the first ladies' diamond watch.
The Mens' Diamond Watch
Wrist watches were considered effeminate until around 1900; virtually all mens' watches were pocket watches. The invention of heavier-than-air, motorized aircraft in 1903 changed all of that. The year following, French-Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Dumont-Santos found that he needed a timepiece that he could look at without removing his hands from the controls. The result was the first wristwatch for men; these convenient instruments soon superseded wrist watches in terms of popularity.
Diamond Watches Today
Since that time, three companies - one French, one Japanese and one Swiss - are best known for incorporating fine timepieces into diamond jewelry. Those three are Cartier, Citizens, and Movado. The latter company has been making watches for men since the early part of the last century; today, there are nearly 200 different models of mens' and ladies' diamond watches to choose from, many of which are among the finest diamond watches available on the market today.
