As the Craft and Folk Art Museum proudly says, the institution is dedicated to providing several different viewpoints about the diverse world around us, especially concerning cross-cultural differences. The exhibits and programs are dedicated to giving us a variety of ways to explore and question the art and ideas that give shape and form to our cultural identity.
The current exhibition at the Craft and Folk Art Museum is called ?Within Four Miles?: The World of Josh Dorman. His work consists of whimsical takes on cartography, using antique maps and scientific illustrations as a foundation for a creative and sprawling world reminiscent of that found in a dream. The title of the exhibit refers to the personal nature of the works, which are closely related to Dorman's personal journey.
There are also plenty of upcoming exhibits to look forward to. Identity: Unlimited Editions focuses on the venerable printmaking medium, one that allows for the enigmatic expression of self, whether it is through cultural identity, gender identity, or another form of personal association. Paper Cuts: 200 Years of Black Paper Dolls examines racial perceptions in the United States and how they are reflected in art.
