It is bad enough that women have to deal with the pain and discomfort of their monthly menstrual cycle, when you add in such complications as ovarian cysts, it seems downright unfair. While a sometimes normal and harmless occurrence for women, ovarian cysts can become an incredible nuisance all on their own.
Ovarian cysts can cause bloating, fevers, pain during urination, pain during sex, and a host of other PAINS. It is no wonder that women seek out effective treatment for ovarian cysts. Adding to this that sometimes, if not treated properly, ovarian cysts can lead to painful surgeries, women certainly have an incentive to see out these treatments.
The first obvious but most neglected form of treatment relates to your diet. Oftentimes, eating the right foods in the right combinations can help cure us of all sorts of maladies. Since we are creatures of habit, we usually continue right along with our normal routine and if something ails us, we seek treatment from a doctor who prescribes medication. If you take the time to investigate how foods can play a role in relieving your symptoms you may find you can do it all on your own.
Many foods have been found to help those suffering from the pain and other symptoms associated with ovarian cysts. They include garlic, beans, dark green leafy vegetables, raw fruits, and whole grains. Actually, whole foods in general (those foods in their natural state that have not been processed) are an excellent choice overall.
On the other hand, there are several foods you want to limit or avoid altogether which have been shown to increase the symptoms of ovarian cysts. These foods include red meat, eggs, excessive fat intake, excessive carbohydrates (which can lead to fluid retention and make the cysts grow) alcohol, caffeine, white sugar, and processed foods and carbonated sodas. It may seem like a double whammy to be stricken with ovarian cysts as well have having to avoid some of your favorite foods but if the fact is, the harmful foods on this list have been shown to have a negative effect on our bodies in a variety of ways, so changing your diet for the better can truly benefit you and your health overall.
If foods alone don’t do the trick, there are other treatments for ovarian cysts that are just as simple and cost effective and can be a great addendum to changing your diet. Vitamin C for one has shown to have great benefit in increasing the effectiveness of your immune system. A stronger immune system can help your body to fight off abnormal cells leading to a variety of illness including ovarian cysts. In addition, Zinc acts as an antioxidant and can prevent free radical damage to your cells that can lead to abnormal cell development. Both of these can be found in sufficient quality in a normal multivitamin supplement but can be purchased separately if increased dosages are required. Make sure to check with your doctor before taking more than the required dosage of anything, prescribed or over the counter. The above represent just a few of the known effective treatments for ovarian cysts. While many medications have been shown to help, it is often advised to seek natural therapies for illnesses that may be cured without the need of drugs or surgeries.
Ovarian cysts may be best described as fluid encased follicles within the ovaries measuring the size of a pea to a cantaloupe (medium sized). When the follicles are larger than 2 centimetres, then the growth is said to be a cyst. Most of the ovarian cysts are functional, benign and create very little or no trouble at all till the get ruptured or grow enormous in dimension. Almost every woman who has not attained menopause has these cysts in the US. It has been found that 14.8% of women after menopause have the cyst. Ovarian Carcinoma is found in 15 cases out of 100000 women each year. In recent years, herbal treatments to cure ovarian cysts have become popular.
Ovarian cysts affect women of all ages. But they occur in most cases at the stage of life when she can have a baby. In some cases the cysts give rise to problems, such as bleeding and pain and may have to be surgically removed.
How to treat them
Cysts in the ovary have today become a major reason for excessive bleeding, infertility and pain. Though they are mostly benign, but we would recommend a test for ensuring this. The most practised method of treating them is through surgery. But in some cases, surgery cannot be carried out and in fact it is not the feasible option, and it is not desirable too. Plus, there are side effects of surgery too. For example, surgery may lead to the cysts coming back again. An alternative method is the 'Synthetic Hormone Therapy'. Many women are advised to go for hysterectomy as well. These days however, many people are opting for herbal treatments and there are strong reasons why they are doing so.
It takes about three to six months for 100% relief from cysts with the herbal treatment approach. Of course, this can vary depending on the size of the cyst and how many of them are there. The liver also needs to be supported and cleaned simultaneously, as it can regulate the hormone levels in the body, and can also clean the blood. The diet is also important here as there are a few food items that can make the situation worse - and there are some that can control the cyst and how frequently they appear.
Foods
Foods that are important to counter recurrence and lessen the discomfort are whole grains, garlic, fruits, legumes and plenty of green and raw vegetables. The items that need to be avoided are processed and refined foods, red meat, caffeine, eggs, alcohol, fat, white sugar and carbonated beverages. Do physical exercise and eat a balanced and natural diet to fight cysts.
Period between 2nd week and till the arrival of the menstruation period
Though it may sound more like the evil concoction that was brewed by the three witches in the forest (in Shakespeare's play entitled Macbeth), it comprises three capsules of black cohosh and vitex, 2 capsules of black haw and dandelion root, and 1 capsule of pau d'arco, chaparral and bee pollen. This combination needs to be consumed two times in a day from your cycle's 2nd week till commencement of the menstruation.
From the starting to the 2nd week
During this period the herbal treatment consists of taking 3 capsules of milk thistle and black and blue cohosh, 2 capsules of 'wild yam', and 1 capsule of chaparral, pau d' arco, yarrow and bee pollen. This combination too needs to be consumed twice a day.
Remember to take these medicines daily with vitamins A, E and C.
For best results, these therapies need to be continued for a minimum of 3 months (alternatively) and this can go for 1 year. However of course, the length and the severity of the problem will matter here. But do remember that these are merely 'general suggestions'.
Holistic approach
The best approach however are herbal remedies. Medicines that are based on herbs work even better if the holistic approach is followed with it. It can be safely stated that holistic approach is the most effective. Actually there cannot be any parallels to it. While in the conventional approach, diagnosis and treatment is carried out, in the holistic approach, importance is given to achieving a healthy body, mind and spirit, and when this is achieved, the cysts cannot get formed. The holistic approach also attempts to find out all the causes because of which the cysts are formed in the first place and then treats all of them. Not only is this approach more effective, is actually leads to quicker relief and that too with little medical intervention.
Education is the first and the most important step to achieving a cure for ovarian cysts. This is because only when the patient knows what the problems are she can take an active part in the healing process - researchers agree to this approach. She is reassured that ovarian cysts are nothing abnormal, particularly in the reproductive years. The fact that they are quite normal and does not cause too much harm is made very clear to her early on. The abnormalities are explained and the warnings are also discussed with the woman. The holistic approach together with herbal treatments does indeed provide the best results.
