Twenty20 format of cricket has made a boom in India. After the success in inaugural Twenty20 WorldCup Cricket Tournament in South Africa, T20 format is promoted in India by ICL and IPL even more. These two leagueshave some similarities and differences and the hottest topic of discussion foreveryone is IPL Vs ICL.   

Indian cricket league (ICL) has been launched byKapil Dev to promote this newest and fastest version of cricket. ICL did notget approval from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and it wascondemned as a 'revolutionary' affair.

The other cricket boards were not in a positionto annoy BCCI and it seemed like the players participating in the league wouldhave to compromise on their international careers. Then the promoters of theICL tried to convince the ICC to recognize their tournament but the governingbody found itself in a difficult situation.

But only a few months later BCCI came out with itsown tournament namely the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the similar lines asthe ICL. It has been started with big players like Sachin Tendulkar, RahulDravid, Murlitharan, Hayden, Symonds, Ponting and a lot of top internationalplayers.

The next important feature is that IPL had a limitednumber of teams to start with their auction. This really brought in money forthe league and for the players through the big names like Mukesh Ambani,Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Vijay Mallya, etc.

The ICL has proved to be a big success despitethe lack of support of the BCCI, but IPL has come up as a bigger blockbuster. Thisseason of cricket turned out fantastic for the cricketers and for theirsupporters. IPL and ICL have been doing a fantastic job for the promotion ofthe game.
