Tips on Gardening
Strawberries need at least six hours of sun a day to flower and set fruit. Keep that in mind when selecting a site for your berries. Strawberry pots, those big pots with little holes in the sides are not ideal for strawberries because they dry out too fast.

Strawberries prefer rich soil. Dig down about six inches with a sturdy shovel and turn the dirt over. Remove rocks and twigs and sprinkle in a slow release fertilizer per package directions. Add a bag of compost or well rotted manure for every 8 square feet of your strawberry patch. For example if your patch is 12 feet by 12 feet you would need 4 bags. Spread the compost evenly and then turn over the soil again to mix the fertilizer and compost into the soil.

Plant strawberry plants about 12 inches apart. Strawberries grow quickly into a bush about a foot around.

Water well. Every month use a liquid fertilizer that feeds the foliage (leaves) as well as soaking into the ground. Strawberries have small white flowers between the size of a dime and quarter with yellow centers. Each plant can have from 3 or 4 berries to a dozen. Depending on the variety of the berry you buy, you can have all the berries setting and ripening at once to berries that ripen continuously over the summer.

Don't over water your plants especially after the berries have set. Mud around the fruit can cause the fruit to rot. Test the soil to see if it needs water by inserting your finger into the dirt. If the soil is still moist up to within an inch of the surface you can wait to water. If it's dry then water. It's best to water deeply less often. That encourages the roots of the plant to reach down into the soil.

When the berries are showing a blush of pink think about how you're going to discourage birds from eating the berries. This can be accomplished with netting held over the berries by tying the net to posts about one foot off the ground. Or you can try using tinsel, yes the kind you buy for Christmas decorations or specially made foil that grape vineyard use.

If slugs or snails are a problem in your area , Set out jar lids filled with beer in the evening. The slugs and snails love beer, will fall in and drown.

Don't spray the flowers with insecticides. You risk killing the bees which pollinate the flowers turning them from flowers into berries. Use a strong spray from your garden hose to knock any bugs off the plants.

Berries don't ripen any more after being picked so wait until your berries are a bright crimson red before picking.

Follow these easy tips from Easy Garden Care and you'll have lush sweet strawberries fresh from your garden.
Tips For Growing Hair
Lots of Bonsai lovers are starting to focus on the great look of Bonsai miniature rose trees. People might think it takes a light touch to grow a miniature rose tree, but when these gorgeous trees are in full bloom, they are hardier than one might expect. Most Bonsai miniature roses are at least five inches tall and various species will be even taller. No matter how tall they grow, you will enjoy growing these special roses.

Growing miniature roses inside requires particular awareness of their environment. Sun from windows alone may not provide enough light. Close examination of the stems will tell if your Bonsai miniature roses are receiving proper light. More light will be required if the gaps between the leaves are too large.

A lot of humidity is required if the bonsai rose plants are kept indoors. This is true for most other plants too. The best way is to arrange a tray or bowl filled with water and pebbles and then place the container of the miniature roses on it. The pebbles or small stones will help the container remain above water thus ensuring that the soil doesnt actually get soggy or waterlogged. As the water evaporates gradually it leaves the required humidity for the plant. However in really dry climatic conditions it is advisable to run a mist vaporizer occasionally.

Pests are likely to infect Bonsai miniature rose plants both indoors and outdoors. Whiteflies and spider mites commonly are drawn to indoor roses. By washing the tops and undersides of each leave, one can reduce the chances or even completely avoid damaging pests. To protect against whiteflies in particular, its best to use pest insecticide soap on the plants at least once a week. These products contain alcohol, which means that you must keep the Bonsai miniature roses out of light until the alcohol has completely dried.

You will need to move diseased roses away from your other plants so they will not get attacked as well. Depending on how serious the pests have attacked your roses, you may be able to cut back a section of the miniature roses. This will allow for regrowth and may even allow the plant to become fuller. The way to get wonderful looking rose blooms is to use a high potassium fertilizer. You will need to mix the fertilizer with water at a 1/4 strength ratio, then proceed to fertilize a minimum of once a week.

Many individuals keep their Bonsai miniature rose plants indoors for a season and then set them outside. This is a good idea on occasion due to the pests that prey on them. However if they are placed outdoors without being removed from the containers they will quickly become dehydrated. Bonsai miniature roses can be planted into a garden as well.

This variety of rose is new to the indoor gardening world, but is gaining in popularity. People are quick to realize how simple they are to care for. Bonsai miniature rose plants are attractive to look at and have blooms that produce a pleasant aroma.
