Family of special needs children have to try to fit the special care needs of their children into an already full schedule. For most of these families this means trying to figure out what is and what is not going to get done. Juggling the care of your other children to be able to take the time with a special needs child doesnt seem fair and not giving your special needs child the extra time that is needed isnt an option either.

It may be that you can keep up for a few days but after a while the pace is too much and wears you down. Where Can You Find Helpers?

It can be expensive to hire someone to come in and help out around the house or help you with your special needs child or your other children. There are ways of finding inexpensive help and ways of finding free helpers. First it is important to decide what your familys strong points are and where you need help. Once you have identified your weaknesses you can work towards finding a solution.

Local organizations may be able to provide a service to assist families with special needs children. The success of children is often the work of a whole community rather than something that one person takes on alone and always has been. Having a strong support system is important, if you have a church group or other organization that you belong to that may be able to donate time towards assisting you so you are able to work more with your special needs child that might solve your problem.

Hiring a helper or multiple part time helpers is another route you can choose. A housekeeper or an assistant that can help out with the kids or even help with therapy sessions can be a local teenager. You can place ads in the local paper or on a community bulletin board. Talking with your local high school counseling center might also be helpful. Many teens are looking for part time jobs and dont charge as much as a professional housekeeper might.

When you find someone to fill the position it is important to interview them and make sure you feel safe and that your children are comfortable. You dont have to take the first applicant that comes along. Once you find one you can take a few days to get to know them and then let them take over specific tasks giving you the time you need to do other tasks. This is one way that families of special needs children can get all of the daily tasks done and insure that the special needs child is able to reach their potential.
