The fastest, most reliable way of generating revenue from your existing website is by placing advertisements on it. In this short article, I will recommend you targeted PPC (“pay per click”) advertising, since it probably is the easiest (and probably most preferable) for beginners and pros as a whole.
It is known that although PPC schemes sound good in theory, in practice however, there are many disadvantages. Drawbacks are mainly coming with users cheating on the system, by generating false clicks and impressions. While this is a great problem for the advertisers - this article focuses on the publishers, whom this problem should not really bother. With that in mind, PPC is truly a good way for making money online.
So, the first thing to do when getting started with targeted PPC ads on your site, is choosing the right advertising agent for you. You have probably heard about many of them, but here are my personal favorites to choose from :
1) Google AdSense, probably the most popular of them all. Notably, this service is backed up by the largest search engine in the world, giving it the ability to display the best suited ads to the content of your website. The program is multilingual and international, unlike most of the PPC ad programs available.
2) Clicksor, my second preference. I like it mainly because the payout per click seems to be higher than Google's, and this sure is a solid ground to prefer it. Another major thing to like about Clicksor, is that the payout can be done directly to Paypal. The program, however, is not multilingual (sites only in English are accepted), and the minimum traffic rates for a site to join the program are relatively high.
3) AdBrite, another favorite. I like them mainly for their less strict terms of service, allowing more kinds of content to be displayed on the website hosting the ads. I haven't got much experience with them, however.
So, for the complete beginner, I will recommend AdSense. This was my first choice too.
After you've chosen you advertising agent, you'll need to join their program. The links to the registration forms of the 3 programs above will be provided in the end of this article.
Remember that you DO need to have a website BEFORE you apply to one of the PPC agents available. If you do not supply a website address, or link to an incomplete site, the agent will reject your application.
After you have applied, and your account was opened (if they accepted your site), you can start placing ads on your site.
There are a lot of ways to highly optimize the click (and thus revenue) rates of your Ads, but since you are placing them on an existing, established website – not everything can be done unless you plan a complete overhaul on your site. What can be done, is the correct placement and design of your ads.
The secret behind ads that draw a lot of clicks, is making the ads to look like the rest of your site, and not like ads. It is a fact that most users know what ads are, and are eager to avoid them. By making your ads look like part of the content on your pages, you are likely to get a much higher click rate from your users.
I won't get too detalorient here, since it only is a getting started guide, but I believe you can see what I mean.
As promised, here are the registration links to the PPC service providers :
And please remember, the most important thing to do in order to keep your PPC income stable, is to NEVER break the terms of service of your advertisement agent.
