Sodium is easy to find on the Nutrition Facts label which is found on most store-bought foods. Even packaged fruits and vegetables will feature this list, quite often! Your body does need a small to moderate amount of sodium each day. But the fact is that most people are consuming more sodium than necessary. You can tell when you eat soup and it burns your throat because it's so salty!
If you have swollen love handles, excess weight, or facial swelling, start by reducing your saturated fat, avoiding trans fat altogether (no more French fries!), and yes, reducing your sodium intake. You will see results right away. Combine the approach with high intake of water (several very large glasses per day) and you'll be amazed at how quickly the pounds will fall off!
Naturally, if you want to really get into shape, it's time to get on the treadmill and burn off calories and fat. If you don't have a treadmill, get outside for a walk or jog when the weather permits, and run or jog "in place" indoors when you can't make it outside. You can also substitute this with jumping jacks or other calisthenics, if you like. The more you move and sweat, the more quickly you will lose weight.
Look at the Nutrition Facts labels on your favorite foods. It's time to make new choices! Avoid high sodium foods completely, or eat them in much smaller portions! Again, be sure to moderate with regards to sat fat and eliminate all intake of trans fat completely. Your heart and your mirror will thank you!
