Building A Solar Power
Sammy Onon
Solar Energy can be a good source of alternative energy for household use, resulting in savings on electricity bills. In fact, using solar energy is a practical way to power your home. What's more, it is also environmentally friendly. When your home is built to tap on solar power you will be able to take advantage of solar power which can later save a good sum of cash on your next energy bill. Almost any home can be built to use solar power. In fact most homes only require a few minor alteration to make. You too can have your own solar powered home capable of pumping and heating your water, powering your appliance sets and lighting your home which all redounds to energy conservation and savings.
Where to Build
The location where to build your home is your first consideration. For one, this has bearing on other building aspects, such as window installation. For the most part, it is more common to assume that the sun rises more toward the south side of your home. This area should be the place to setup most of your windows. In that way you are allowing the sun to shine through and warm your home naturally You also need to make sure that there are no trees that are directly close to the house that may prevent the sun from shining directly into the home.
Getting the Sunlight
You must add a solar source outside. A solar power designed boxdraws the solar heat for transformation into energy for household use. The products that it takes to get this accomplished will cost a little more than if you built a standard home without using solar power. The good thing about solar power is that it is an initial investment, so this is the only energy cost you will have. When you totally rely on the sun to heat your home and perform all the other energy functions you will not have a monthly bill because you don't pay for the sun every month like you do with other power sources.
Other Advice
- Don't use dark colors in your home to decorate with. To attract heat better, choose bright and colors instead.
- Use ceiling fans to reduce the amount of time you may need to run your air conditioner. Ceiling fans can produce a more even amount of heat and air without having hot and cold pockets throughout the home.
- Use metal insulated doors that will keep out the cold and bring in the heat.
- Keep the doors closed during the time of day that the sun is shining in on your home in order to save the heat inside your home longer.
- Use darker colors on the exterior of your home, especially a tint on windows to help absorb and attract the sun's heat.
- Maintain a back up energy source. This may be more applicable in the early phase. Ultimately, you will be relying entirely on the solar power source for your household need. Thus, it pays for you to know the extent of energy to power your home.
