Wee Forest Folk collection is based on adorable woodland creatures depicting people's daily activities in a satirical and fun manner. Created by Annette Petersen 30 years ago, formation of the Wee Forest Folk has grown into a family business connecting Annette and her three kids Willy, Donna and Jenny, to a number of people within Carlisle, Massachusetts.

Like all other artists that are just beginning, Annette made her original mouse out of bread dough. The current molding methods for each piece have evolved to add strength and last longer. All of our sculptors and painters give out their best by giving careful time and patience to give life to every figure becoming an art form as it is.

Wee Forest Folk figurines are based mainly on mice. We all know mice as little critters that run around inside the house, especially in the kitchen, and scavenge food anywhere they could find. These nibblers may be considered as pests by most people but we cannot really deny the fact that mice are cute. One way or another, their thin little round ears, buttoned eyes, flurry whiskers, round pudgy bodies, and bucked teeth, are some of their features that makes them look cute and adorable.

Mice are small animals among the species of rodents and different species of them have proven to be very adaptable and resilient. When Annette created her first statuette mouse out of bread dough, she most probably had no intention to associate it with the rats on her kitchen. Instead, she modeled her dough mouse creation after the mice that live in forest and woods. Thus the name, Wee Forest Folk. Ironically, however, the mouse she created out of bread bough was nibbled by the real thing.

From then on, her mice creations, along with the mice creations from her kids, have grown and became successful to collectors around the world. The cartoonish appearance of every mouse figurine is a combination of the actual appearance of real mice and dressing them up like us, and making them portray what we do in real life. Activities in life that we usually take for granted.

These different portrayals from each mouse sculpture enable anyone who looks at it to give a deep thought to the things we do in our everyday lives. Many of Wee Forest Folks Figurine depicts family themes and companionship such as mother and child, grandma/grandpa and grandchild, father and son, etc. They all express aspects of love and caring which tells us a lot about how important it is to have bonds with our families and people close to us and we care for. Some themes also expresses historical and holiday celebrations that we celebrate each year.

The messages given by Wee Forest Folk are understandably clear. It also commemorates all types of occasions as well as simple and common day to day life, love and caring are always symbolized as metaphors in each sculpture: The Boston Tea Party is one event in history that opened the way for the birth of a great country with Wee Forest Folk's Jolly Tar Sailors Collection.
