All The Secrets Behind Ferrets And Poison
Dane Stanton
It is a very frequent occurrence that ferrets and poison become unknowingly in the same area and suddenly the ferret's natural nosy instinct takes over and they are nibbling and chewing. There are many items that can be completely harmful to your ferret and some items are even surprising when talking about ferrets and poison. In order to help you create and maintain a safe area for your ferret this article will discuss a few common poisons that ferrets get into and some that will shock you.
Common Ferret Poisons
Ferrets and poisons may not even seem like a credible threat to your pet however it is imperative to understand their personality. The ferret is a very nosy little critter and can squeeze into extremely small holes that easily make an entrance to your cupboards as well as in the walls. Obviously, if you have mouse or rate poison in a hole in your wall it is important to block the hole very securely because your ferret will find that hole and in all likelihood will nibble a bit at the poison.
Similarly ferrets and poison come into contact if the ferret can get into a very accessible area such as under the kitchen sink. There are many poisons under your kitchen sink that can have terrible effects on your ferret in fact, most things under there will harm the ferret very severely. Anything that contains alcohol will seriously harm your ferret, oven cleaner, mothballs, paint, bleach, antifreeze, ammonia, pesticides as well as those brass and silver cleaners that you keep under your sink.
Surprising Items That Cause Harm To Ferrets
Ferrets and poisoning is not only restricted to under the sink cleaners and medications and obvious items that could seriously bring harm to anything that ingested the poison however items such as raw meat can be very harmful to ferrets. They are not meat eaters as well as raw meat can make them terribly ill. Chocolate as well as anything with caffeine in it in general are also very terrible items to try to feed your ferret, as it will get very ill.
Other common household items that often are present in ferret and poisonings are things such as Easter basket grass and tinsel. Ferrets love to chew on string like things however these get lodged in the intestine and ultimately can cause death.
Remember this is not a complete list to guide you in the ferrets and poisoning area so before you let your ferret out to roam, be sure you familiarize yourself with all potential dangers to your pet's health.
