You want to only choose companies that pay high commissions and have a proven track record for paying their affiliates ontime. My personal favorite are 2-Tier affiliate programs that let you build a sub-affiliate team which can earn you residual income for the sales of your affiliate team. With the thousands of programs online, you may want to take your time and be very picky about which program you choose before wasting your valuable advertising money.

The reality is that you will be competing with lots of other affiliates and you need to stick out of the crowd. Consider putting together some free reports or e-books to give away with a link to your blog or affiliate site. This will make you different from the rest of the people trying to promote the product and also builds your credibility by providing potential customers with free valuable information.

2. Build an opt-in mailing list

It is a known marketing fact that people do not buy on first contact. People have to see something six or seven times before they decide to make a purchase. This is the number one reason why you should collect the e-mail addresses of people who download your e-book or visit your website. You can follow-up with these contacts for years to come and increase the number of sales to more than just a one time deal. If you don't collect contact information from your prospects, they could wind up going to your vendors website and never come back again and you just lost a sale.

3. Ask for higher than normal commission from merchants.

If the merchant is smart he or she will likely grant your request rather than lose a valuable asset to his sales. Keep in mind that you are a zero-risk investment to your merchant, so do not be shy about requesting for an increase in your commissions. Just try to be reasonable about it.

To be a successful affiliate marketer you need to write and manage strong PPC ads like Google AdWords. It can be the most effective advertising means online if done properly. Always check up on your PPC ads and tweak your copy to get better click-through rates and lower bids. Try turning your ads off at night because this is when most click fraud occurs. Always get rid of ads that preform poorly and try and target one keyword per ad instead of one hundred.
