The Pirates' have continued and still struggles to put together a full 40-minute effort as the season comes to the end. They still went ahead to drop vital points despite playing at home. The Feb. 25th loss to the Marshall made things even worse for the pirates. Since then they have failed to put their things together. In there last game the pirates were trailing 12-0 without a point. This was the same when they played the Marshall.
It wasn't any different on their home final against the Blazers on Feb. 28th; the same problem was exhibited in the way they played, this was barely into the first 20 minutes of the game. At the halftime break, the Pirates were trailing the Blazers who were on a 22-3 run, before starting the second half and anyone could easily tell the game's outcome.
After the match analysis Mack McCarthy the East Carolina coach was at the defense saying that they tried to make shots in the first half as they struggled to stay in touch. However in the second half they were out played and could not make as many shots.
The Pirates have failed to put up any significant runs throughout the season, and this is the cause behind the rampant losses despite putting forth good efforts just for the first 35 minutes or more.
Despite all these, the Pirates have been consistent only about one thing: They have gone ahead scoring 62 points in their last three games. They have however failed to make a perfect victory.
The real problem with the Pirates is the lack of size inside. This has been the real trouble they have encountered throughout the season. The team is currently trailing near the bottom. The Pirates lacks an intimidating and hard to break defense, this has made it easier for opponent teams to drive into the paint and hit them offensively.
The team's size is a hard thing that any team can all of a sudden acquire, hence it's up to the Pirates to work extra harder in order to stay in front of players who have the ball and also keeping at bay any potential rebounders.
Player rotation is also important; that the usual starters such as PG Brock Young, SG Sam Hinnant, G James Legan, Guard forward Jamar Abrams, and F Chad Wynn should be given a one match rest. Other notable Key subs like G Jontae Sherrod, F Darrius could be used. As the Pirates prepares to take on Central Florida knights in the season's finale, it will be everybody's hopes that they will discover themselves and put an end to their losing streak of four games.
They should keep in mind that the game won't be there's for the taking because the Golden Knights are out for a revenge for the 89-75 loss afflicted to them by the Pirates earlier in the season. In that game, the East Carolina pirates managed to get away with a 15 3-pointers. Even though it's currently hard for the Pirates repeating the same, if they need to, they'll have to put a little more effort and tighten their defense. This will keep the Central Florida Knights' offensive moves at bay.
