Since its existence for about 120 years, they had won 630 games and they appeared in about 25 bowl games. The 2001 Peach Bowl was the team's most up to date triumph in where they defeated the Auburn Tigers 16'10. The program hired a new head coach in the person of Butch Davis last November 13, 2006. He was the past head coach of the Miami Hurricanes and Cleveland Browns. Moreover, the football program is now more funded including men's and women's basketball teams since the school pledged for an addition budget allotted for them.
Important Moments and Accomplishments
The use of forward pass was the most advanced and most significant input of North Carolina to the game of football. And in 1985, they were also the first college team to initiate the play. In 1973, the book ?They Made the Bell Tower Chime? by Bob Quincy, he said that it was truly the Tar Heels that started the forward pass in their game against the Bulldogs (UGA). It was created in order to put an end to a scoreless impasse and gave 6'0 win in favor of the UNC.
Though they are not always triumphant, and the North Carolina football program has had irregular success, they had featured a lot of skilled players and many of whom have become well known in the National Football League, just like Jeff Saturday, Lawrence Taylor, Willie Parker, Alge Crumpler, Dr? Bly, Greg Ellis and Julius Peppers.
