There is nothing more irritating! When this has happened to me, I wanted to chuck my laptop across the room or out the window! Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and I found an option that is much more cost effective (and not as messy).
If you're experiencing problems with your computer's performance and speed, you have a few options. You can either take your computer to a repair shop and have them look at it, or perform an easy yet comprehensive fix yourself from the comfort of your home. Let's look at what you can expect from each option.
1. RE-FORMAT YOUR HARD DRIVE AND INSTALL WINDOWS AGAIN
If you choose this option, make sure you locate the Windows backup discs that came with your PC if you bought it new. If you can't find these discs, you may have to obtain them from Microsoft. Check their website for more details. Be sure to backup any files you need, since they will be gone once the re-format has taken place. If this doesn't solve the problems, you can:
2. SEND YOUR COMPUTER TO A SHOP TO HAVE IT FIXED.
You will probably have to pay at least one hundred dollars. You might have to pay more, depending on how the amount of labor involved. Don't expect to get your computer back for a while. The wait time can be anywhere from one day to two weeks, depending on how backed up your repairman is. Some will offer a money back guarantee, though you probably won't get all the money back. Some of the labor costs will probably not be refundable. Contact your local repair store for details.
3. SCAN YOUR COMPUTER FROM HOME
I have found this to be the best option, both for the sake of time and money. First off, you can have your computer's windows registry scanned for free. If errors are found, you can purchase a program that will cost anywhere from $29 to $59, about half of what you would pay at a repair shop. You also won't have to worry about being without your computer for an extended period of time. The whole process takes about 30 minutes to an hour tops. And there is really no monetary risk. All of the major registry cleaners and repair programs offer a money back guarantee.
I definitely recommend trying to fix your computer from home first. Nine times out of ten, a registry scan and repair program will fix the problems, plus it's something you can use over and over again. If there is a more serious issue, you can always have it fixed at a repair shop, but don't spend that extra cash until you absolutely have to.
