I was in a bar with a male friend a while back. I was sharing about the few the cute guys that I would have liked to have a conversation with. I added that I was finding it difficult to be with someone. He replied:" I know what your problem is Caroline; you want to be with someone too much"

His comment was hurtful to me. That is a clear demonstration that men are action oriented: to him, he was solving my problem. That was his way of being supportive and helpful even if I didn't agree with him

I strongly wanted to shout at him: "I am working about 50 hours per week. I dedicated some of my leftover time to training. I have my social life and my relatives. Can I focus at least 3 hours per week on flirting without looking desperate?!"

I feel that I am entitled to that.

I am sure that you get comments like that once in while. Some are even worse then other ones.

It seems to me that as soon as I have a man in my life, I am perceived as having fewer faults then when I am single. Suddenly, people's opinions are shifting to "there is nothing wrong with me".

When I am living single as a woman, I feel good about my life; I have freedom, peace and allowed selfishness. It's a pure joy like. I made a few changes in my thinking and in my lifestyle that allowed me to be happy living single.

Living single is all about freedom. Freedom of speech, freedom of hours of sleep, freedom to go out, freedom of doing what you want, when you want it.

What makes a life fulfilling is to experience intimacy. When you are feeling closeness with you child, with a parent or with your partner it is a good source of happiness. That is why you can have intimacy with yourself.

Intimacy is a feeling of closeness. So find it with yourself. Be close to yourself. To whom you are. Find out what you really like and dislike.

Do you like doing woodworking? Would you be happier working on shifts then a 9-5 job? Unless you try it, you can't know about it. Living single is a great situation to experiment and find out more about you.

Take the opportunity to have undisturbed connection with you. Find new hobbies. Find some new long term project. Make new friends. Plan an unconventional trip. Be more spiritual. Try new sports.

By the way, if you pity yourself, stop it right now. No man will want to be with a depressed woman. Everybody wants a lively, positive and happy person. As you are developing more of yourself, you are becoming even more fascinating. You'll have backed up opinion and anecdotes to share.

Living single is a "believe in you" situation. You will be so involved in different situations that along the journey, you will meet men. Living single still allows flirting and dating.
