The Willow Tree Company is a branch of the Demdaco Company which is an organization that manufactures and distributes different products specializing in interior decorations such as tablewares, functionals, giftwares, and figurines. Willow Tree by itself creates different themed figurines and keepsake items and collectibles s inspired from people, plants and animals, and their top of the line Angel figurines which also contain messages that are inscribed also on the figurines.
The name Willow Tree was derived from, what else, the willow tree because most of the Willow Tree Figurines stand upright and columnar and the texture and the appearance of the material also kind of look like that of a willow tree. Also, Willow Tree figurines figuratively represent the natural representation of nature such as a tree giving shelter to animals and this fact is represented as a metaphor with Willow Tree figurines whether Angels are holding animals, plants, flower and fruits, and other simple but meaningful objects.
The actual willow tree is a type of deciduous tree that grows and thrives mainly in the Northern Hemisphere where the temperature is cold and the soil is moist and most species of willow trees grow on coastlines right next to fresh bodies of water such as lakes, ponds, streams, etc.
Perhaps the most prolific and well known type of willow tree is the weeping willow tree which is recognized by its low branches and low hanging and ground-sweeping long leaves that look like a shredded curtain or someone's shaggy hairdo, but color green. This type of willow tree is popular to a lot of people especially to those who are looking for a good area to live in. Weeping willow trees provide a dramatic and pleasant view in an area where it stands.
The ecological benefits of weeping willow trees is that it can absorb water quickly than other kinds of trees, which is probably why it usually grows and thrives near bodies of water. If it rains and a puddle is left next to a willow tree, that puddle would quickly disappear. Willow trees are also very adaptable to any soil and can really prevent soil erosion especially on sloped areas because of its sturdy roots.
Furthermore, the willow tree is associated to the triple-personality Celtic Goddess Cailleach who represents winter, and Brigit/Bride who is her other younger self upon drinking from the well of youth, just like that of a willow tree. Willow tree is also associated with femininity which is symbolized as being a tree of dreaming and deep emotions.
Willow trees have also been used, and are still used by some, as a source for certain herbal medicines. The leaves and the bark from willow trees contain salicylic acid which is a crucial ingredient in making aspirin. Different ancient civilizations from different time periods have been using leaves and bark of the willow tree as medicines to cure inflammations, aches, fever, and as a relief for rheumatism.
With these symbolic and medicinal properties associated with willow trees, Susan Lordi, the creator of Willow Tree Figurines and Angels, chose to name her creations after the willow tree, undoubtedly due to the history, meaning and qualities of the willow tree. The deep emotions, rebirth, and medicinal healing associated to the willow tree by the ancients, give Willow Tree figurines their meaning and value.
