Because printer cartridges are becoming more sophisticated, it is important to also handle them properly. Improper handling may cause leakages to occur. This can eventually cause damage to your printer head. Some causes of ink cartridge leakage are:

In the event that the printer cartridge leaks and gets in contact with your skin, immediately wash the area with soap and water. If it gets to your eyes, flush it out with warm water immediately.
Installing Printer Cartridges
Ink cartridges must be installed immediately as soon as you take it out from the vacuum packaging to prevent the ink to dry up. When installing the printer, make sure that you keep your hands away from the electric IC chip usually located on the back portion of the cartridge. This IC chip allows the printer to recognize that a new printer cartridge is installed. Unfortunately, this is also extremely sensitive.
Printer Storage
Storing a printer cartridge is very important. Improper storing may cause the ink inside the printer cartridge to immediately dry out. When you store your printer cartridge for future use, make sure that:
You store your printer cartridge in a cool, dry place.
Make sure you keep track of the expiration date of the printer cartridge. The printer cartridge should be used before this date. Otherwise, it would result to low print quality and clogging in the printer nozzle to occur.
If you have an opened ink printer cartridge that you would like to use for future use, make sure that the opened area is protected from dirt, dust and air to prevent this from drying up.
Run Regular Cleaning Sessions
As you use your printer, ink would be left in the printer nozzle. Over time, the printer left on the printer nozzle would dry up. This would lead to clogging and cause text documents and image print outs to become substandard in its quality.
Limit Your Refilled Ink Usage
Refilled ink cartridges are more susceptible to leakage which would cause damage to your printer's performance. If you find purchasing original printer cartridges too expensive, you can opt for generic printer cartridges that are sold half the price of original printer cartridges while preventing any form of leakage to occur.
