Ever had that experience where you had a lot of stuff laying about and can't find any storage to put them in? Or how about a time when your home office desk is cluttered with so many documents and can't find a spot to place additional stuff that just came in? A lot of us have experienced storage woes in one form or another. There are a few ways to resolve the issue like reorganizing or putting up garage sale to sell off the things that we don't need. There are times, however, that we will really need to purchase storage furniture for additional space.
There are different types of storage furniture depending on what items are supposed to be stored inside. Armoires or wardrobes are used for storing clothes; chests can be used for storing just about anything as long as they fit in there; drawers can be used to store documents and other small stuff that you usually use in the home or office; and a closet or cabinet can be used for keeping miscellaneous items.
An armoire (popularly called a wardrobe) is a piece of standing furniture that is designed for storing clothes and similar items. People from early times used chests for storing their clothes but the grand apparel of nobles and other upper class members required a better accommodation. A room was then used with the wall-space filled with cupboards, lockers, and drawers - which was then a modern invention - to hold clothes and similar items. The term "wardrobe" most probably came from such practice.
Evolution to the modern armoire that we know today took a long process. In the 17th century, a movable oak hanging cupboard called the Oakley was a popular item and served the same purpose as the wardrobe. It was massive and cumbrous but with the change in the use of oak for making cabinets it brought about a change in furniture fashion. Walnut replaced oak as the favorite material for making furniture. Unlike with the previous material, clothes were rarely hung on walnut furniture, and instead, drawers and trays became more popular.
During the 18th century, a form of wardrobe was introduced called the tallboy. A common feature of the tallboy was that it should be able to hold within its capacity, eight small men. It was only in the 19th century that armoires started to evolve into its modern form. There were hanging cupboards on each side and drawers below. It was often made with mahogany but a variation made of satinwood was also present. Eventually, the central doors not only covered the upper portion but also reached the ground, covering the drawers and shelves, and finally fitted with mirrors.
A Home Elegance armoire is a good piece of furniture to have in your bedroom. Not only would you have a place to store your clothes, it would also be a good looking addition to the room. A few tips to remember when going to purchase new Home Elegance storage furniture is to take the room's measurements and the entryway for the piece. You wouldn't want to buy something that would not fit in the room. When I say fit, it could also refer to the overall design of the furniture. Make sure the furniture goes well with the room's overall design and matches the other d'cor well.
