The causes that lead to schizophrenia are hard to identify but we can hear very often many opinions. Inheritance, dopamine, personality, a stressful life or drug abuse are believed to be the main causes that lead to schizophrenia.
Even though is not proved, some specialists say that a particular schizophrenia gene exists. Their theory is not approved, the only fact that is sure about schizophrenia is the affirmation that says a combination of genes might be responsible for some people vulnerability. This affirmation is not general because people with the gene combination that the specialists talk about are not necessarily prone to schizophrenia.
Dopamine is a chemical that carries messages between brain cells. Some specialists believe that an excess of dopamine may cause schizophrenia. This affirmation is not yet proved just like the other opinions about schizophrenia causes.
Schizophrenic people are not to blame for their problem. Not to blame are their parents too. If someone develops schizophrenia in childhood, their personality is surely going to suffer. Some parents blame themselves for contributing to the development of schizophrenia for their children. This theory is totally rejected because no one is to blame.
A stressful life is also considered a cause for schizophrenia. Studies say that people, who are affected by social problems such as poverty, unemployment, the loss of someone close to them, risk developing schizophrenia. Patients say that a sexual or a physical abuse is the main cause of their symptoms.
Another cause that helps the development of schizophrenia is drug abuse. After many studies, researchers got to the conclusion that any street drug may lead to schizophrenia and the affirmation that says cannabis, cocaine and amphetamines make the symptoms worse is proved.
Schizophrenia is a cause of physical differences in the brain. This can mean either a cause or an effect. The existence of other supposed causes like viruses, hormonal activity (especially for women), or allergic reactions is also unapproved. Even though it is believed that these may cause schizophrenia these causes are not generalized because rare cases of schizophrenia are seen developing after them.
Anyway, as a conclusion, we may say that schizophrenia is caused by all these factors. For someone with genetic problems that makes him vulnerable, stressful events may relieve schizophrenia. Not proved yet, the real causes of schizophrenia are waited to be revealed.
